    Hi
No - I assumed that I could drap and drop tracks - so thanks for that info. So - if I go into itunes is it obvious as to how to rip tracks?
    thanks

It is quite easy - once you've installed iTunes when it's running and you put a CD into the drive the CD and contents will show up in iTunes. Just highlight the tracks you want to rip, right click and choose the option ('Convert to AAC' I think - not sure, but similar) and it will do it for you.

As others have pointed out you can use other ripping software and other music programmes, but since iTunes and iPod were designed to work together and you could spend hours trawling Google for alternatives, you might as well use it, as I said.

Erm - is there a reason why you have to be quite so insulting? Obviously this OP is having difficulty with this and I've offered help. Ok, you know another way to do it so please give her that advice and respect that others may not have the technical capability or time to do what you are suggesting.

And you too. Give this advice to the original poster and don't be so insulting.

You quite correct expresso, there are alternatives but I thought saying so would just confuse the OP.
Once OP has got used to iTunes then they may want to explore other methods.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

For what its worth, itunes is a nice easy system to use, the following link is the Apple video presentation

    http://www.apple.com/itunes/overview/

    The specific helpdesk is

    http://discussions.apple.com/category.jspa?categoryID=150

as for formats ACC / mpeg etc, simply go into preferences & change into either WAV or mpeg (with the setting at 160 kbps) this will save space on both your pc & ipod.

You'll be surprised at how easy the whole system is to use, enjoy your ipod.

One final note if you decide to import audiobooks try this site

    Good Luck

    Your post

was incorrect and this was pointed out by two users! If you post rubbish, expect it to be commented on, as this is a discussion forum.

No insults, simply facts. Not everyone likes iTunes and many prefer not to use it, hence the numerous alternatives freely available on the net.

You might as well carry on using it though!

  • Just saw this topic and thought I'd add my experiences with itunes.

I find it's fine and works well. It will show your ipod as well as link you to the itunes store. I don't use the store but my wife does. I prefer to have the cd / tape / LP in my grubby little hands. But that's just me.

I rip all my cds as Mp3 with itunes, just a matter of setting it up in preferences. I use 256kbs Mp3 for higher quality sound, it's worth ripping a favourite song at different bit rates and let your ears decide what's best for you.

I have used itunes on both PC and Imac, both flavours work well for me.

I would recommend you give it go, if you don't like it then try winamp.

I used winamp years ago and it was a great Mp3 player, I am sure the current versions are just as good.

    Above all enjoy you ipod!

    Kel.
