Ipod Nano Help Please

Hi,

We have a new Ipod Nano.

We have connected it to the computer with the USB cable and it says it is connected, but I'm not convinced that it is charging as you don't see a battery symbol. I have read somewhere about needing the USB ports to be 2.0. How do I know if I have this?

Also according to the booklet some sort of auto install should take place, but it doesn't.

If I go into 'My Computer' the Ipod is there.

Anyone got any ideas?

I:o wasn't going to connect to Itunes yet, I was going to just mess about with music from CDs until I get more confident. But is this part of where I'm going wrong?

Thank you

I use http://www.mediafour.com/products/xplay/ Free for 30 days. I dont have itunes on but i think you have to have some kind of ipod program on it.You cant just drag and drop songs without a program.

Thanks. Do I still need to download itunes straight away - I was hoping I could transfer tracks from CDs first to get used to it, before I got brave?
    Thanks

You cannot transfer tracks to an iPod without using iTunes.
iTunes needs to covert your tracks to AAC audio format, as that is the format that the ipod uses.
When you first load itunes it will search your computer for any music tracks convert and import them.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Only an opinion but I think it will be easier for you to download iTunes straight away before messing about with CDs - I am assuming that you know that you can't just drag and drop tracks from CDs - you need to rip them using a programme and since iTunes was designed to do this with the iPod you might as well use it.

Not trying to tell you how to suck eggs mind!
I'm so sexy it's a wonder my underpants don't explode.
  • sometimes some usb things are tempramental about the ports being used so try to use one of the ports on the back that are directly attatched to the mobo.

As for needing to use itunes, well that's rubbish there are plenty of add ons for other media players like winamp.

It's a laptop and there are two ports on the back and two at the side. Should I use the ones at the back? They all look the same to me!
    Thanks

Sorry but that statement is simply not true and there are many alternatives to using iTunes - just Google. You also state that Apples own AAC format has to be used but the more sensible MP3 format can also be used. iTunes is more of an Apple marketing tool but it is not necessary to use it.
