Are there any non contract wifi companies that provide good wifi?

Hi There,

I am hoping to find a short term wifi solution in my flat. I may well sell it within the year so I don't really want to get tied into a 12 month contract but in the meantime do need good wifi. Any suggestions of something that actually works well?

Thank you so much in advance.

Tether from your phone, get a 5G router on a SIM only rolling monthly contract, get Starlink. Or you could continue with your current provider on a rolling monthly contract and pay the higher rate. Or take out a cheap deal, on the basis that you can almost certainly port it to your new address and it will be cheaper per month, plus the cost of early termination would be irrelevant compared to the cost of moving anyway.

What's your usage likely to be? Light internet browsing or a couple of 4k TVs and interactive gaming?

Is your flat already wired for internet? There are suppliers who will give you a rolling month-by-month contract but they are usually more expensive than regular term deals and often feature a chunky up-front charge. BT (and others) offer 12 month deals that might actually work out cheaper.

How is the mobile signal indoors?

4/5G rolling services are available from several players, or you could DIY with a bought router and a mobile SIM deal.

Thank you so much. good advice. I need to have capacity for video calls as well. I think on balance getting a 12 month contract will be best.

I'm sure you know this but in case you don't, "WiFi" is just the local wireless network within your home. What you're actually looking for is broadband internet access.

You can get broadband via cable (copper wire or fibre optic), via mobile telecoms or via satellite. Exactly which one is best for you will depend on your circumstances.

Good or bad wifi depends on your hardware like router or mesh system. That is nothing to do with ISP…

I believe 5G router with unlimited mobile data likely to be cheaper.

(keep an eye on HUKD scancom offer, for example Three 1000GB per month for £60 with end date of Mar 2028, i.e. £3 a month)

Also look at Giffgaff broadband. They do 30 days rolling contract using Virgin Media fibre network.

We put a couple of Tapo security cameras in my 95 year old mum’s bungalow to detect when she is moving about, or more to know when she is not moving about, asleep in her chair and not hearing the phone ring.

The bungalow has no broadband. To connect the cameras we put in a 4G wireless router with an ID Mobile 60gb SIM card on a month by month contract for £10 a month. So only one month notice to cancel but better still you just pick it up and take it with you when you move, so having to have a short contract is not a big deal.
