Still showing as SORN and I've just checked with the last neighbour who wasn't in yesterday. Nobody knows whose car it is. It just appeared about 5 days ago.

I've reported it so will wait and see.

Is it parked on double yellow lines or within some other parking restriction?

If it is parked \7 obstructing a pavement, then the police will act (usually a fine)

funny how cars left where they should not be move onto a footpath overnight🤣🤷‍♀️

Reporting a dumped vehicle and getting the LA to accept it is dumped is quite an effort.

Totally agree. We have a van near us that is parked legally on the road but blocking the view for residents leaving their drives. It is taxed but has no MOT and no tax. Police aren't interested and the LA have said it doesn't meet their criteria for an abandoned vehicle. I guess MOT and insurance are optional for use on the road now.

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

OK. So the car has disappeared overnight and this morning it is showing as taxed up until 1st June 2027…

I'm wondering if there's been some sort of delay updating the DVLA website or whether my making inquries about the car has initiated some action by the owner to get it taxed.

Having said that, the car sticks out like a sore thumb on our road and i'm pretty much 100% sure it doesn't belong to any of our neighbours.

I suspect it's been SORN'd since the previous MOT in March 2024 and the the owner random;y left the car here "resting" while they sorted out the tax after last month's MOT. They picked a bad road to leave it on as everybody here knows everybody else's cars.

    Thankyou all for your comments

[Edit: if it's now showing as tax due 1st June 2027 i assume that means it's been taxed no earlier than two days ago?]

Pretty much, given the current date. Although, if you tax a car mid-month, the tax always runs from the first of that month, irrespective. Which is why it's best to avoid taxing the car on the 29th or 30th of the month if you can - you pay for a whole month's tax, but only effectively get a couple of days' worth for that month.

I know that 1 month's tax is not an awful lot in the grand scheme of things, but still ….

Is that because it's not some PCP brand new eco box?

Love the arrogance though. Must be great on 'your street'

"… Must be great on 'your street' "

    It is thanks! ☺️

But as we live in a grade 2 listed terrace there aren't any brand new eco boxes as there's nowhere to plug them in.

Also most of the neighbours seem to be petrol heads and prefer classic and/or performance cars to saving the planet. Recent neighbours' cars include a 911 cabriolet, an Audi S4 Avant, a Golf R32, a Triumph GT6 and an Alfasud kitted out for track days. (Admittedly the Alfa is usually garaged elsewhere but it is occasionally parked outside).

I suppose the neighbours might be embarrassed by our 12 14 year old Mondeo but they've never said anything - yet.

The falling apart Mazda really did lower the tone though…

Don't think it would stand out like a sore thumb Vs your shed then! ;)

Maybe the Mazda is the first car for the offspring of one of the neighbours…

Maybe the Mazda is the car for the illicit liaison of one of the neighbours…

Maybe the Mazda is the car for the staff (Nanny / Au-Pair / Cleaner / Butler / Mechanic) of one of the neighbours…
