You be surprised how much PCB manufacturers can cheap out on components, especially when the PCB is not visible to the consumer.

Maybe buy one of these, and at least check your sockets are in spec. Can at least see if these plugs diagnose your sockets ok.

At least it happened start of June, not start of December.

Getting a second opinion is also probably worth it, a blown PCB unless the boiler is ancient shouldnt need a full replacement, just replace the PCB.

May also worth check there is a 3 amp fuse in the fuse-spur supply the boiler. Many lazy boiler installers just level it with a 13 amp fuse.

Fuse protection is not the same as voltage spike / surge protection.

Which is why all my electronic kit - TV, PCs etc - sits on surge protected extension leads - and not direct into sockets.

I am not convinced they will always save it - but I know that the sockets and standard fuses - 13A, 3A or otherwise - have not in past.

Even if the boiler is obsolete, there are independent companies out there that can supply reconditioned PCBs. Some Gas Safe engineers will agree to fitting these boards but will not provide a guarantee on the work unless they also supplied the board. Then there are a few engineers that will refuse to fit any component unless it was sourced directly from the boiler manufacturer (e.g. The likes of BG).

If you are forced in to the position of having to replace the boiler, then I'd recommend looking at a heat pump. Whilst it is warm, your need for heating should be zero, and much of your hot water can be provided by a kettle.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –
