So may I just ask, from 2027 (or whenever) in the event of a power cut - which may be very serious for vulnerable people - how would they call 999 / family?

They may be able to use a mobile phone.
They may have made provision with a battery backup allowing their internet-connected phone to continue to function.

That's exactly what I am going to have to rely on …... if I ever get connected to FTTP !
Just a thought though - I have been FTTC for almost ten years now and assume that if power goes down - THAT will be unable to connect as well - so maybe NO battery back up will be needed, after all ?
Clearly - in the last ten years - either power has not been lost - or I have not tried to connect or make calls during a blackout.

No, you'll still need battery backup because it's for the router, not the incoming cable.
