It does indeed and I have done that, hence won't be buying an MH kit.
got son to do the Living DNA one then he got his Y and I got to know my mtDNA (both of which are interesting but not much help on family matching)

Most the time you will simply get a failed test results, we share about 84% in common with dogs at a genome level and any decent place require a 95% match to the ~700,000 genome points they look at.
There are some places that allegedly give results no matter how poor they are and so some have received claimed human ancestry for their pets… https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/home-dna-kits/48310/ slightly different kind of test but this one said that Bailey would be good at boxing and basketball but failed to note that she's a Labrador
