In Germany we used to sleep in the basement of the house as it was the coolest place to be in summer. Unfortunately we don't seem to build houses with basements in the UK.

Those fins look fine to me comicgeek . Could put flags or pots of flowers on top. Have never seen them before.

You see them sometimes on large modern office blocks.

But there are gaps in the fins, Am i missing something. Are the fins angled but just not clear in picture.

They are angled and the gaps are shaded by the angle of the fins. I think that is the case anyway, and I presume they only work properly when the sun is higher in the sky.

Available from B&Q along with other suppliers online. Custom made alternatives also available, some even motorised (at a price).

A while back, I had scaffolding up around the house, and the first deck provided quite a bit of shading to the South facing bay window. Helped to keep the temperature down for the first few weeks of summer until the scaffolding came down.

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Yes, the fins are angled so block out the direct sunlight when the sun is higher in the sky. They are most effective on south east, south or south west facing windows. On my windows they block almost 100% of direct sun between May and September. The sun is lower during the winter, so still get direct sun under the fins in winter.

The gaps between the fins allow daylight (rather than direct sunlight) to still reach the window. The room would be a lot darker inside if an awning was installed instead.

I have a retracable awning on our lounge patio doors which also works great. But I like that I don't need to remember to do anything with the fins, just fit and forget.

" just fit and forget " That's good. Sounds new to me.
