Cordless vacuum cleaners... arm/wrist strain

This is exactly why I stick with Dyson. The balance between function and weight meets my needs

Find one where you don't have to the hold the 'on' button to keep it working (like you have to with a petrol pump)

I haven't got pets but do have long hair and fitted carpet, so a small vacuum cleaner is essential. We've had a couple of cordless models over the years, with the latest being a 28 volt Bosch BBH3285GB.
The beauty of the machine is that it is shaped like a traditional upright cleaner, rather than the more usual modern type with the motor unit at the head of the suction pipe. That means it is self-supporting, i.e. the weight of the motor is taken by the wheels rather than the operator's wrist — the cleaner is much easier to use, therefore, as one doesn't have to carry it when in normal upright mode and doesn't need to exert pressure against the floor to keep the brush in contact with the carpet. There is also an ordinary power switch, so just switch on and use rather than worrying about keeping a trigger depressed.
It's a decent cleaner, too.
