Cordless vacuum cleaners... arm/wrist strain

Not sure where to post this.

Can anyone recommend a rechargeable, good suction cleaner which is on the light side, weight-wise?

OH and I are getting heartily sick of trundling our corded, cylinder job around… but we've heard three main accusations levelled against the cordless models:

  1. They simply don't do the job specified on the tin - inadequate suction/inadequate run time.
  2. They give rise to nasty things like tendonitis and other strain problems
  3. They have a shorter working life

If anyone can vouch for a particular make/model, I'd be very interested to hear it.

We have a cordless Shark and a corded Vax as our main 2 vacs. (We also have a SEBO and a Vax washer thing). The Vax machines are pretty lightweight anyway. We have the pet one which has a very long lead. The Shark is fine for us for doing lightweight cleaning or vaccing up the occasional cobweb or similar. Mostly use it on the stairs and bathroom floor. I wouldn't use it as a main vac though. We've had it for a few years now and it works like new plus no injuries to report.

I have a Dyson one; I bought it 2nd-hand and it's fine for my household use.

I have a cordless Vax but it’s a bit rubbish with the suction for the tools to get into corners, under settees, et cetera so I keep my trusty Henry on standby for the occasional deeper clean.

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have not could of.

We got a Dyson V11 extra a few monthe ago.

    1. No issues. Lasts long enough and on full power it clings to the carpet. Obviously not as powerful as a corded but easily good enough
    2. Possibly. The main issue is on ours you have to keep the trigger pressed all the time. Some others are not like this and you can buy an add on for ours that locks the trigger.
    3. so far so good but only a few months.

We tend to vacuum more often because it's so convenient not having wires and plugs. I would recommend getting one with a wall mounted charging station that can store/charge rather than faffing around with leads or batteries.
