Always wonder about these sorts of responses.

    Wonder not!

    1. Important details on that thread which would help posters see the full story
    2. You should have continued with the original thread as they are connected

And I don't keep a "database" on anybody, just have a good memory.

Finally remember that each day that car remains unsold, the MOT gets shorter and the car becomes less desirable and less valuable.

If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

"Finally remember that each day that car remains unsold, the MOT gets shorter and the car becomes less desirable and less valuable."

    You don't say?

And here was me thinking that I was in here trying to see alternatives to a private sale since the private sale isn't going so well & I didn't want time running out.

WBAC are just shy of £1k. Obviously I wont be getting that. I'm in the 3-5 month MOT window now.

Okay. First off, they won't be offering you just shy of £1k. The way they work it is that is for a Grade 1 car fresh out of the showroom.

We've just sold a 150,000 mile 14 y/o car through them - they quoted £2k online - we wanted £1,600 and we ended up with £1,800 which was better than messing around with tyre-kickers requesting test-drives via AT.

The car itself was spotless to be honest - and was assessed as a grade 3. He said it was the best car he'd seen in a long time - and that most cars he sees are grade 4/5.

If offers start coming in around WBAC range then I may as well go with
WBAC though as it'll be much less hassle than dealing with some moron
who contacts me 2 weeks later saying they've just noticed a split wiper
blade so they want a 90% refund.

That's why I'm suggesting selling privately for about the WBAC quote, because if you take it to WBAC they'll almost certainly offer you a lot less. Like I said in the other thread if the website says £1000, you're realistically not getting more than £700 for it. But you should be able to sell it privately for £1000 pretty easily because your buyer will probably run it through WBAC to see what they think it's worth.

I'm not sure anyone has ever got the quote figure from WBAC.

(The previous post stuff is because context is important and people have terrible form for drip-feeding information across numerous posts. For example, we know the car is worth £1000 trade in and £1800 on a forecourt, but we've no idea if it's a good starter car like an older Clio, or a terrible starter car like a 1980's Bentley on a million miles).

WBAC valuation is based on what the user enters. There is a box for overall cosmetic condition 1-5.

Your case sounds like a good example of where an owner doesn’t know how to accurately appraise a car.

Leather seats worn. Steering wheel a bit shiny. 150,000 miles so reasonable age-related wear, not factory fresh, which is what the online quote is for.

Conversely I have sold via we buy much newer cars - putting down every mark - and got the exact online quote.

The seller will probably over value their own car, so there's a bit of that, but lets not pretend that the buyer isn't incentivised to pay as little as possible.

I'm pretty confident that even an accurately appraised car will get knocked down for something.

Motorway are a broker, if none of their comtacts want it time to find another way.

Stick a note in the window and park it on a main road.
