Motorway - we can't sell your car
Car has been up for sale for about a month now. Had a few interested folk, not many. Mostly timewasters with the odd exception.
Already knew about WBAC but had Motorway suggested to me. Gave them a try - "we can't sell your car".
No explanation why really. Just your average family hatch. No finance on it or anything. Valuation would be £2k tops down to £1k depending on who'd be selling (a dealer on AT would probably list for £1.8k-£2.5k).
Will it be because of the price? Do Motorway only get interested in expensive cars?
And since this didn't work are there any other alternatives to WBAC?

The delaers on Motorway aren't generally interested in such low value vehicles I'm afraid. There is just no profit margin in it for them. Bare on mine a dealer has far more obligations as a seller than a private individual.
We are talking a car at the end of it's usefullness at that price.
If you don't want the hassle of timewasters selling privately on auto trader etc then your only option is WBAC. Unless you are looking at a buying a new car and trading it in?

I sold my late father's Nissan Micra car via Motorway a couple of years ago for £805, which was lower than the estimate, but I was happy to get it off my hands. It's basically an online auction site for dealers, and as the arrangement is for the dealer to collect it (which was why I went with them as the car was SORN'd and and I don't drive) I suspect that for low value cars only dealers nearby would be interested.

A dealer will need to service the car, fix anything obvious that's wrong, perhaps obtain a fresh MoT - and be prepared for the car to be returned any time in the next six months if it develops a problem. After that and VAT and the cost of the Autotrader Ad, there might be some small profit in it.
That puts a value of about £500 tops on your car.
What would WBAC offer you?

you could stick your car into a local car auction.

Had this with an older car. Too old and not worth enough for Motorway to sell. Sold it locally instead.

When I used Motorway for my 18-month old Audi, I got quotes from local Audi, Merc, etc. franchised dealers.
But those guys won't be interested in 7 year-old Fords, Fiats, etc. M'way probably have options for sellers to say they won't consider anything over x years, and/or to exclude certain brands, etc., etc.

At a car that's going to sell for £1800 tops, the cost of collecting it, cleaning it up and fixing any issues will likely eat up any profit margin. WBAC are slightly different because you bring the car to them and they ship them to auction in batches, so don't have the same costs.
Since it's cheap and has just under 6 months MOT, I'd be trying to sell it as-is on a local Facebook group, Gumtree or whatever. Bump the price up from the WBAC quote and to knock it down to a round number. So advertise it at £1200 and then sell for £1000.1 -
I believe Motorway have a fixed fee, or a fixed element (ie minimum) fee. For cheap cars, it simply isn't worth sourcing stock off of Motorway.

Ah. I did wonder if perhaps the reason for not entertaining it was that they only bother with cars that most people tend to be driving these days - costly things approaching £10k.
WBAC are just shy of £1k. Obviously I wont be getting that. I'm in the 3-5 month MOT window now.
I'd like to deal with the dealers you deal with :) A dealer will have to service the car? They might say they have but whether they do or not is another matter.
Unfortunately not getting a ton of interest. Had a bit. Mixture of timewasters and people who just changed their mind I suppose.
Always wonder about these sorts of responses.
Makes me think that some members keep a database of certain other members & what their posts are.
Personally I take all posts on face value. Could never be bothered delving through previous posts on someone.
Though I know a few here like that sort of thing.
I'd never heard of Motorway until fairly recently.
So when someone mentioned to me to try it, I did.
They probably assumed I was like most people - buying or renting costly cars but absolutely no chance I'm paying £20k to get to work.
Yeah that looks like the route I'll be taking.
If offers start coming in around WBAC range then I may as well go with WBAC though as it'll be much less hassle than dealing with some moron who contacts me 2 weeks later saying they've just noticed a split wiper blade so they want a 90% refund.
