Well it's not far off. £2600 over a year into NW RSA would make £97.50 interest maxing the extra month trick (200*7.5*0.065), the same £2600 into the "market leading" (best 12 month one you mentioned) would make £98.58 (216.67*6.5*0.07). Of course you can put more into the FD, but if you have the cash/spare PSA available you can use both. So it's a bit of an exaggeration to claim it's not "remotely" market leading, true it's not the very best but it's close.

OK it might not have been at the top of the table for every day but for the last several years has been consistently at the top end of the table - e.g. 8% in 2023 IIRC. Other providers may have offered a higher rate (or larger monthly deposit) but either only for a limited period or with more hoops to jump through.
The point remains that it's worth having for most (most!) people. Exceptions will of course apply.

I do exactly the same, as I find the 'Nicknames' you can associate with payees, the best setup for me to make the monthly £'s transfer relativly undaunting, having the NW RS ticls all th boxes apparently.
So going forward will keep doing the same
I like a simple life
