British Airways - how to claim when 2 friends travelling on same booking ref?

Earlier this year, British Airways cancelled my return flight on the way home and rerouted me from a different Italian airport to land at different uk airport the next day.

My travel companion through his business is a Gold card holder with them and having incurred most of the expenses from the delay put in an initial claim. This was processed immediately by BA and they even paid out my statutory delay compensation payment to him too. However I also included some legitimate expenses which I seem unable to claim. It all has to be done through web forms and whenever I use the booking reference they say they already have a claim under this reference (my friends settled claim). I’ve tried adding my expenses to his claim as additional info, which was immediately closed and raised a new claim - again immediately closed. I’ve also directly replied to the closure email which they advise to do but this reply has been ignored. Each time i get the automated “this has been closed due to an existing claim already assigned against this booking.”

This has now been going on for over 2 months. I’ve tried to escalate it as a formal complaint but again this case number was automatically closed within 2 hours with the same line “there is an existing claim assigned against this booking”.

Has anyone else had this issue where 2 people are trying to claim for the same booking? How did you get round this problem and how do I escalate with BA. Customer services have been useless and refer me back to the web page only. Trying to get advice here before referring to arbitration as I’ve yet to be able to have a dialogue with BA. Thanks

Why did you not both coordinate your joint claim? Your extra expenses that you are now trying to claim should have been included with the first initial claim.

I suspect the other passengers ticked a box saying that they were making the claim on your behalf, with your permission and that any claim settlement would be considered final. That is probably why BA won’t entertain a reopening of the claim to add more expenses.
