Which editor toolbar would you prefer?

I can see the advantage of having all the options displayed, but on balance I think the inline option is better.
I anticipate there will be problems with longer posts that if you select text and then scroll to the top toolbar, when you scroll back down to the text you'll find something has gone wrong with the text selection and/or option selection. So that means highlighting the text again and another lot of scrolling, possibly with the same erroneous outcome.
That's based on the existing quirk where using the quote option on a line of text in the middle of a post often results in more than just the selected text being added into the quote. Or the other quirk when tidying up a quote by deleting blank lines results in the quote format being deleted as well.
If we could be sure these quirks (and others yet to be discovered) won't exist, then scrolling to the top toolbar would be less of an issue… but I'm not optimistic the supplier will ever get round to fixing everything which is wrong with the new editior.
One answer of course is for us to avoid writing long posts… which (without labouring the point) is less easy with the inability to edit quoted posts and having to use the workaround of manually adding sections of quoted posts (for which the toolbar needs to be used). This, by necessity, is making posts longer than they need to be.
I'd also suggest we spare a thought for those who create and manage the long posts which form the basis of many of the very useful threads on the fourm (like the top regular saver one). The folk who generously give their time to curating those threads should perhaps be given extra consideration, if not a golden vote, before a change is made which could make their jobs much harder.

Yes. They could be harder to maintain if we switch toolbars.
But another thing to consider is that our new editor has a lot of options that our members are yet to explore - and I think the reason could be because a lot of the features are hidden.
For example, a killer feature of the new editor that has mostly gone unnoticed is that when you use the Toggle option, members can directly link to toggle sections: Example link to toggle 3.
This should help with any guides, and we have plans to go board-by-board and help with any of the longer announcement if they're in an old format that's hard to convert.Join the MSE Forum

The toolbar is now available.
By popular vote, we've switched to the new version.
But, now that we can all test it, if there are any issues with the new format, or you change your mind, please post here

"By popular vote, we've switched to the new version."
Do you think that the transition from one to the other is the cause of my ongoing problems with not being able to use the "quote" paragraph formatting?

Hi @QrizB
I wouldn't have thought so.
The option to switch has only become available in the past couple of hours.
Please try in the new version and let us know if you're having the same issue.

If I wasn't having problems, the paragraph above would be formatted as a quote 😆

I was also having problems with quoting earlier, but not now

Apologies, but I've had to tip the vote on p1 of this thread away from 100% and vote against the toolbar. I've had to update The Top Regular Saver Discussion thread this evening and noticed the change, I had no idea the change was coming till today.
My reasons are broadly the same as those detailed by @Section62 a couple of days back, the new version certainly makes updating p1 of The Top Regular Saver Discussion thread and posting updates in the archived thread much more cumbersome, but then again I appreciate it's difficult to find a one size fits all with these things.

I prefer the top toolbar, but if people who give their time updating long posts find the inline one better, I'd rather go with that.

It's just a pity you can't swich personalise the settings in this respect so that people can have the top toolbar, but opt in to the inline one if they wish. I appreciate it probably isn't possible otherwise that'd've already been implemented.
