Which editor toolbar would you prefer?
Hi everyone,
Our text editor will soon have a choice between 2 formats.
To be clear, both options below are part of the updated editor - this is not a choice to return to an older editor
Option 1: Inline toolbar (Currently used)
Formatting options appear near your text when needed, usually when you highlight text or open the formatting menu.
This keeps the editor cleaner and puts controls close to the text you’re editing. However, because the options are not immediately visible, some members may not realise they are available or know how to find them.
Option 2: Top toolbar
Formatting buttons appear in a bar above the writing area.
This makes more options visible straight away, which may help members discover and use formatting tools more easily. However, if you’re writing a long post, you may need to scroll back up to use the controls.

Top toolbar.
But, of course, the ability to edit quoted posts would be more useful…..

Agreed. PLEASE can the ability to edit quoted posts be reinstated - it's such a backwards step to remove it. Even more so when you want to reply to different parts of the quoted post in sequence to make your reply more clear.

Top.
And another vote for the ability to edit quoted posts.

Hi everyone,
For the ability to edit a quoted post, if you haven't already, add an upvote in the thread on the Rich Editor Feedback board:
As mentioned a few times on the various Rich Editor feedback threads, it's not something we have the power to give you. The best we can do is advocate for it and point to its popularity among our members. So keeping it in the same thread would help with that.

Is there any reason we can't have both?

Top toolbar appears to have options, such as spoiler, that I can't find in the inline version.
Having the top toolbar at the bottom, would mean it's always near the end of a long post, which appears to solve the only downside given to the top toolbar.

There aren't options for these at the moment. It's a toggle that switches between one or the other for all members.

It exists in the inline version. It's one of the options when you click the Quote marks from the floaty side icon.
…but I think the key takeaway isn't that it exists, it's that our members don't know it at a glance. They have to stumble on it or be shown it.

`That's interesting, because with zoom set over 200% (which is how I normally read text screens) the floaty side icon isn't there. The paragraph mark moves to the bottom toolbar, and I've just discovered that clicking that then the quotemark gives the spoiler option, among others. I've either never noticed it or forgotten it.
Oh, spoiler hides a block, not just the selected text as it does in other comment systems I use. That explains its placement.
The above was me exploring some options I didn't know existed. I hope it gives you feedback on the UI.
