Car insurance for a learner
Our youngest has passed her theory and awaiting her full test, we'd like to get her insured on her grandmother's car so we can practice with her, this car will eventually become hers when she passes ( she doesn't know this yet )
Am I best getting her insured as herself, telling the insurance company it's her grandmother's car or getting my mother to add her to to her policy?
I just tried the former on 'go compare' and it would only accept our daughter as the main driver, which blatantly isn't the case, her grandmother will still be the main driver ( and owner )

When who passes?

I don't know how you can possibly be confused by this

Do you mean when your kid passes their test or when your mother/motherinlaw dies?
There is another option which is to get her a learner driver add on policy so Gran keeps her policy and this sits as a separate policy that only applies when daughter is driving the vehicle. It doesnt expose gran's NCD to any claims daughter may cause.
The challenge can be selecting the right length of the contract as the per day rate goes down the longer it is but the policy basically ends the minute she passes her test and fees for early termination tend to eat up the majority of any return premium.
Is gran getting another vehicle or stopping driving when daughter passes and presumably then gets the car (guessing you weren't meaning when gran dies)

You thought the word 'passes' meant her grandmother dying….? 😶
Jeez.
No, I thought it was clear I meant our daughter passing her test.

Blame the creeping Americanisation (Americanization?) of UK English.

Passes, as in "passes away".
Isn't the English language wonderful?

Marmalade learner insurance did the job for us. Cost about £1 a day for a few months cover.

It’s American English (passes) and English (passes away). Sadly, we are seeing more and more Americanisation (if that’s a word) of our language.

I absolutely read it as in when the grandmother passes away. It was the use of the word eventually implying she would have a wait but eventually it will be her car.

Anyway……
We're going to go with Marmalade.
Has anyone successfully used the Marmalade cover as proof of an NCD when she eventually passes ( HER DRIVING TEST ) and needs full blown insurance with someone else?
