HELP !!! Gaming Laptop Query

Hi,

I am after a gaming laptop specifically to run two simulator games, The Sims 4 (with expansions) and InZoi. I have a ASUS Vivibook (I know it’s not a gaming laptop but ran the sims well enough) that I was playing sims 4 on, but due to a large update, this game has now become laggy and sticky.

I want to now purchase a budget friendly gaming laptop (don’t have space for a desktop) thats around the £1000 mark, to run the sims 4 with expansions but also a new game called InZoi. However, InZoi has some insane graphics. Basically, I am wondering if there’s anything I should be looking at or whether the laptop I have been looking at is good enough:

ASUS TUF A16 Advantage - AMD Ryzen 7, RX 7700s, 1TB

Any advice given would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance

Wherever the game is sold will give you the minimum and recommended spec of PC needed to run that game.

    Does the spec come close?

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I have reviewed both minimum and recommended specs for the game and I think the laptop meets the requirements. I have copied them below. Just too many numbers and confusing myself. Just wanted to double check with someone who has better knowledge in laptops than myself that this will run the game without lagging. Last thing I want is to waste my money.

Don't forget a laptop RX7700 is nowhere near the same as a desktop RX7700, desktop version
draws more than double the power with a substantial increase in performance.

What's the RAM on that video card? Just had a quick look and the game needs 6GB minimum so you should be looking at 12GB+
for your video card. and 16GB minimum for the system RAM.

Specs even warn you that your going to need to turn a lot of the settings down and expect less than ideal framerates.

Google shows the desktop as being 60% faster, 2048 Streams for the laptop (100watts) and 3456 for the desktop (245watts) and
the desktop version comes with 12GB RAM not the 8GB of the laptop.

Has that A16 been upgraded since the link that's 3 years old?

I am aware that a desktop would be 1000x better in all aspects but I do not have the space for a desktop and have set myself a budget as I’m aware that desktops can cost a lot more to assemble and if building yourself I wouldn’t know what’s best or where to look for components.

I think it has 8GB on that video card and 16GB for the system RAM, I could be wrong.

The A16 was released last year and the A16 advantage was upgraded in 2023. But the normal A16 has lower video RAM.

I didn't know if you knew that an RX7700 in a desktop is upto 3x faster in some games than the laptop version which is the S not the XT.

Spotted a review that said the battery life is not great when playing games, just over an hour on battery alone which I presume ran even
slower than when plugged into the charger. Can it charge and play a graphics heavy game at the same time?

Check reviews that are not just adverts reading off the manufacturers script?

Are all laptops S rather than XT. What’s the difference ?!

I did see the battery life wasn’t great too, didn’t think that would be a problem if I had it plugged in all the time, I’m guessing it does ?!

I’ve had a look at some reviews and other than the battery life and running slightly louder there isn’t anyone who says it’s terrible during gameplay, even when playing games like COD and ARC Raiders. Is there any other laptop or brand that you would recommend looking at or is it impossible to get a laptop to run near the graphics I need without spending 2k+ on something ?!

Fundamentally, laptops are designed to be thin and light, and use as little power as possible to give a long run time on battery power, and therefore generating minimal heat to avoid burning your legs when used on your lap.

There are "gaming" laptops, but I guess most are used by home/office people, and students, for fairly mundane tasks. Dell have a few gaming desktops and laptops. Prices from £1000 to £5099

Neither of those games, even with your claims of "insane graphics" have high levels of graphical fidelity, their graphics and system requirements are pretty entry level. If you are searching for the specs related to "simulator games" you are going to get much higher spec recommendations than you need. They are specifically "life simulators" or "social simulators", low spec, low power games. When you look for simulator games normally you will be given specs for racing sim, flight sim, 4x, physics sim etc. which have a much higher computational cost.

They both seem to have higher specs than their graphics should require, particularly InZoi which looks very poorly optimised. In the laptop space something with an RTX 5060 laptop chips or higher should be fine.

‘Insane graphics’ to me, someone who’s not a massive gamer but enjoys the life simulation you mention and hasn’t seen a life simulation with that level of detail before.

My next question is….is the AMD Radeon RX 7700s good enough ?! I’m not sure what it equates to in Nvida GeForce. Or what does RTX Nvida GeForce 5060 equate to in AMD ?!
