Coventry Building Society

My goodness is it me or is Coventry Building Society's website registration long winded? I applied for an ISA online expecting an almost instant (after security checks of course) paperless account, boy was I wrong. After a raft of paperwork arrived by post and a visit to a branch, which thankfully was only 10 miles away, I'm still waiting to be allowed access to my online account, now I'm waiting for a pin to arrive by post, more paperwork. I applied for the account 5- 6 weeks ago!!!!!! There saving grace is that their telephone Customer Services were excellent. rant over. 😤

Yes you are right. They are a large Building Society operating as a tiny one. The Co-op and Coventry are a good match for each other. On several occasions I have received 10 separate letters from them on the same day, each in separate envelope. I have given up on them. It is only recently they have started doing same day transfers

Thank goodness its not just me, i was beginning to doubt myself.

Their paper wastage used to be horrendous, recently it's been slightly improved. When I had an account maturing they sent me a whole brochure of maturity options, none of which I was interested in (all low-interest easy access accounts). Couldn't seem to find an option to go paperless re. account maturity.
Other than that, Coventry have been great, and I've never had a problem with them….. but their tree usage could put people off completely.

Coventry's account opening procedure can be confusing. As an account holder I can open new accounts virtually instantly online if I use their app. If I log into their website, it always wants to send out a paper form. So I always go for the app to open new accounts. I've found their service quality very good, but their current new account rates are dismal......

Couldn't seem to find an option to go paperless
I have an old Coventry First account which is a quasi current account and I used to get monthly paper statements. Strangely they recently thanked me for going paperless and the statements no longer arrive in the post. I hadn't done anything to prompt it but perhaps it is a sign of things to come.

Odd. As an existing customer, who only uses online access and not an app, I find new accounts open immediately online. I've just opened a Sunny Day Saver today and it appeared immediately, did not even need to log out and in again. I could fund it immediately from another easy access account that I closed. No doubt I will get a flurry of envelopes next week for the new account and the closed one.

Same here opened it immediately on line and was able to fund it immediately from an external bank account with instant COP match. No need to wait a day like with other accounts I have.

Interesting......in my case, twice I've tried to open accounts on the website after logging in fully, and it's insisted on sending a manual application letter to my address. I've then gone on the app and the accounts open right away, no paperwork. These were "three access" and "four access" savers. Sure enough, after a week an A5 envelope with the application form has arrived. I'm now wondering if it's because I use an "old" Chromebook (no longer getting Chrome updates) to access Coventry's website and their system doesn't like it and insists on sending out letters to my home address as extra security. (With the app I use a newer Android system).

Another interesting here.. I recently opened an ISA on the website as a brand new customer and thought the whole process was admirably clear, smooth and immediate. Within the first two weeks they offered a better rate and I was able to open the new account and transfer the whole amount from the older account which was then automatically closed. I got slightly confused at one point about which was the ‘from’ account and which was the ‘to’ but it all happened correctly.
..And some introductory paperwork did catch up in the post in due course, but not unexpected from an older building society.
The above mentioned examples by @4justice2 of app/web inconsistencies slightly smacks of software issues / historical out-of-date flags or conditions set and not cleared etc. Software ain’t easy!
