IG Stocks and Shares ISA - what account type do I choose?
I'm looking to open a stocks and shares ISA for 2026-27 and take advantage of the cashback off on this page:
The MSE page states:
To open the S&S ISA you first have to open IG's general investment account (GIA). Your cashback amount is based on your initial deposit (which you can make into your GIA or S&S ISA) NOT how much you invest in the S&S ISA (though you do need to invest a minimum £1,000).
When I click the link to go to IG I get the sign up page one of the fields says "Account type (you can add an ISA or SIPP later)". The 2 options are:
- Share dealing
- IG smart portfolio
Which one(s) - if any - do I need to select if I'm planning to open a new stocks and shares ISA and invest new money?

Shouldn't really matter but I have a 'Share dealing' account and the S&S ISA is available to open from there.

Share dealing is the self-managed DIY investment selection option. Smart Portfolio is ready-made portfolios. Either route offers both GIA and ISA.

For this offer I assume can you just deposit £10k in the GIA then invest £1k of that £10k into the S&S ISA to qualify for £200 cashback. Is it ok to then withdraw the other £9k from GIA or are there restrictions? Also are there any issues if the £1k ISA investment drifts below £1k?

Also do they have tracker style funds to invest in? or what would be something safe-ish to invest in till the end of september so to satisfy the offer?

I did IG's £200 Cashback earlier this year when you only had to invest £200 to get the £200 Cashback. I bought 80% VWRP and 20% VAGP. I probably should have stuck it all in VWRP seeing as it's only until the end of July.

Yes, it offers a wide range of shares and ETFs. A couple of short dated sterling bond options it has are iShare's ERNS.L and Pimco's QUID.L but I'm sure there are more.

For ETFs, I assume I should select "share dealing" rather than "smart portfolio"?

Yes, that's what you want.
