Siemens or Bosch washing machine??

  • Bosch and Siemens essentially share the same basic model line (Bosch is half owned by Siemens), but Siemens are the premium brand. Usually they have upgraded finishes (e.g brushed steel rather than brushed effect plastic) and the level of sound proofing along with general build is usually better.
If all things were equal I'd go for the Siemens purely on the basis that there are a lot of moving parts on a washing machine and that 5 year warranty may come in handy. I had a similar dilemma when buying my washing machine, ended up opting for a Siemens over Bosch because it came with a 10 year warranty.

I have had my Bosch washing machine for around 8 years now with no problems at all. It's very sturdily built and so quiet (even when spinning) you can hardly hear it running.

The only problem I have with buying new washers these days is that you can only purchase 'cold fill'. I know they say that machines clean just as efficiently using cold water, with new washing powders etc. But I would prefer hot fill as well.

    I definitely recommend Bosch though.

    Good luck

A vote for Siemens from me.I've just replaced my Siemens, which has lasted for 10 years. In that time it was used at least once a day. In that time, I needed to replace a plastic piece on the door (where DD used to swing on it ), but got the spare from Siemens and fitted it myself for less than a tenner. The only reason I replaced it was because it had started leaking at the door, and I got a cracking deal from Comet Clearance.

I would have voted for Bosch until July.

I had WM - 1200 spin, DW, Fridge and Freezer all matching. Then I got a new kitchen with 'free' DW and WM.

The WM is Electrolux 1000 spin. It beats the Bosch hand down on the spinning even though it's only 1000, clothes are MUCH dryer on every type of cycle.

(I feel a bit guilty about giving my Bosch WM to my aunty)

Bosch, Siemens and Neff are part of the BSH group. Basically the same company, in Bosch, Neff, Siemens order (toe to top!).

All my 'white' goods are either Siemens or Miele. Miele is more expensive, but to be honest the after sales is superb. I have had problems with a Miele dishwasher and a Siemens washer, both engineers have been brilliant, but the Miele man just tips the balance slightly. He also serviced my vacuum machine whilst waiting for a cycle on my dishwasher to show as faulty/corrected. I can't fault that.

On washers, the quality of the parts will show in years to come. Certainly on Bosch and Siemens, little things like the [technical know how showing here] bit that screws onto your water pipe, is far superior to anything any other company gives you. That's just the visible stuff. The door catch on my Siemens is made from steel, a Hotpoint (I rented whilst we renovated our barn) had a plastic hinge. Quality is not just on the outside. The last Siemens washer I had lasted over 16 years (showing my age) and I only gave it up as we moved to renovate. IT is still going strong, probably more than I!!

John Lewis frequently have deals, and certainly used to price match. Then they chuck in a 5 year warranty (or 10 for my Miele products).

Sorry for going slightly off topic but our Samsung washer has'nt put a foot wrong since we had it (4 years now).

I would never buy another Indesit though.
  • adandm. Check your messages. I have sent you a link of how and where you can get a miele for £400.
    Cash ISA rate 6.5% fixed for 2 years. Mortgage rate 0.75% = 5.75% profit on £75K = £4500 per year:j
Mortgages make money. Definitely don't wanabee mortgage free!
  • I bought my Bosch before DS was born and he will be 3 next month and I have loved it since day one and my MIL bought one after using mine as she liked it so much. I had just left my job so money was tight and I didn't want to pay too much but also wanted a good brand, and I think I got a great product. HOWEVER, I am a firm believer that companies give out warranties for roughly the expected life of the product so if I could afford the Siemens and it was a ten year warranty then I would be tempted to go for that. On the other hand my friend seems to be the kiss of death to washing machines and for the amount of time it has taken for her to get engineers out to wait for "a bit" or to replace the machine she would have a brand new one delivered. She has ended up on numerous occasions in the past couple of years having to wash all her clothes in the bath for weeks on end. So I would check very carefully what the terms of the warranty are. I think she has decided to go for cheap machines she can just keep replacing rather than keep having this palaver with all her fancy warranties. That really wasn't much help in the end was it?
  • Hi
I would def recommend a Miele, I just bought 1 from the Co-op as was really reasonable and its free delivery and if you go on the Miele site they are offering a 5 or 10 year parts and labour warranty depending on the price of the washer. Think the cheapest starts around £500 which sounds a lot but cheaper washers can only last around 2-3 years so it is worth the money in the long run. Miele have an excellent reputation an engineer told some one we know her washer would out live her! If Miele to expensive I would recommend Bosch or Zanussi. I do love my Miele though!
