Teams failed during interview

Ah, they're using a mobile router, I'd missed that myself. Yes, the problem most probably starts there. They would need to get Virgin or an Openreach (others exist) wired service first before worrying about the WiFi.

Why is a mobile router a problem for Teams, beyond the generally reduced bandwidth and lower speeds than cabled services?
I often use Teams (browser version) via hotspot connection to the mobile phone and it works satisfactorily. The desktop version is not satisfactory in that operating mode.

Lower speeds, much higher latency and unstable compared to a "normal" internet connection. Yours may be satisfactory, for a lot of the country that won't be the case.

Hacking your laptop is NOT a thing, for one its illegal and 2 its not possible. They can tell if its their end as it will pop up with a message along the lines of "Your connection is poor so video may break" I can't remember the exact wording but it happens when you have a poor connection yourself, hence they'll have said "I think its our end".
Teams its a pain in the !!!!!! but so are EE Broadband.

Because if the connection is crap, Teams just won't work properly. We have one site at work that is on an old crappy copper line, at the end of the line that's a highly contended line (meaning lots of other folk are on it) and Teams just doesn't work. The uploads speeds on that line are so bad that Teams can't do what it does. You can only use it for messaging and not video or audio calls.

I fully agree that it won't be happening but disagree that it's not theoretically possible. The interviewer will have setup the meeting meaning that the admins of the organisation will have access to the connection log showing the interviewee's IP and therefore in principle they could look for vulnerabilities. If they actually find any exploitable vulnerabilities is another mater but in principle if the OP has all security settings turned off, never updates their OS etc then something could exist.

FWIW in practice that IP address wont belong to your device.
