Teams failed during interview
Hi,
I've been doing Teams interviews without problem on my Laptop
which is a Lenovo ideapad running windows 11 Home.
It has 8GB of RAM and "system" says it has 0.99GB of "available physical memory"
(Interestingly my other laptop has 8GB of RAM, but has 4.54GB of "available physical memory"…so is it better for me to use that laptop instead?…or is there any way for me to increase the "available physical memory in the laptop on which i had the failed call?"
Anyway, today i had a Teams interview and it just kept locking up, and so we had to do
the interview by phone.
This is my mobile router
…i dont have the yellow "ethernet"(?) lead thing…..is it best for me to get one?…….can i get one with a USB on the other end as my laptop doesnt have a connection for that RJ45(?) connector.
I have re-installed Teams.
But is there anything else i can do to assure this doesn't happen again.?
The interviewer seemed to think it might be their end, but i dont know how he knows that.
I am wondering if they kind of "hacked in" to my computer as i was in the "Teams waiting room"....(?)
I hear these days that when looking for new staff, the employer often likes to hack in to the candidates personal
laptop just to check that they are not the type thats looking at dodgy websites. Is this true?...maybe it was their hacking in
that caused my Teams Link to go down?
I mean, my internet actually went really slow as i was in the "Teams waiting room".
The internet is perfectly OK now though.
So in other words, as soon as i got logged in to the Teams call, thats when the problems happened.....so do you think
they might have been up to some hacking?
I mean, all i care about is that this doesn't happen again......so ive re-installed Teams, but is there anything else
i should do?
BTW, my laptop did flag up a message the other day saying that many of the drivers were outdated, so how can i update the drivers?
(i unfortunately didn't have time to update them when it offered me to)

This video shows RAM being added for a "Lenovo ideapad 1 15IAU7"
but mine is a "Lenovo ideapad 1 15AMN7".
So will the procedure and required RAM be the same?
______ ___ ____
Will this 16GB RAM be ok for my laptop?

The mobile router is the obvious suspect. Teams video is sensitive not just to download speed but to upload speed, latency, jitter and packet loss. Mobile broadband can look “fine” for web browsing and still fall apart in a video call, especially if signal quality changes or the mast is busy.

"I hear these days that when looking for new staff, the employer often likes to hack in to the candidates personal

I'm pretty sure they weren't hacking into your laptop.

AFAIK :-
The Lenovo IdeaPad 1 15AMN7 cannot have the RAM upgraded.
That's because I believe that with that model the RAM is soldered directly onto the motherboard*, meaning there are no slots available to add more memory or replace the existing RAM.
*I have a similar Lenovo laptop with 8gb soldered RAM. It runs Windows 11 fine for everyday tasks.
Like above I suspect that it is your router that may have caused your issues with Teams.PS. If you have ever done any interviewing of potential employees you would know that you don't have time to mess about, so no they just wouldn't be bothered to try anything underhand. (Plus would you want to work for someone who did that?)

Teams can be buggy at times. If you have trouble with the desktop app, try the version in the web browser and vice versa. And try a different browser (generally works better in a chrome based browser like chrome, brave, edge)

So if its the router then should i get a RJ45_to_USB ethernet lead so that i can plug the router directly into my PC?
RJ45 to USB adapter..

If the laptop doesn't have an ethernet port then yes, it certainly won't do any harm.

I was thinking more of an issue with the 4G signal strength rather than the router-laptop wifi.
Of course a cable connection will be more stable than wifi, but it's not going to improve the 4G if that is the issue.

I have found that Teams seems more reliable using the browser version than the app version. That is just my experience. I cannot quantify the variance. I cannot explain why that is how it seems to work best for me.

Also carrier grade NAT is commonly used on mobile networks; it's one more thing that can go wrong.
I'd be looking at the low memory first. Did it survive a reboot?
