Switching from BT broadband
Is it best to contact a new provider 30 days before the BT contract ends? Or best to wait until the contract actually ends?
Thanks.

It's around 14 days if using the OTS service, try to aim for the last day of the minimum term as anything either side of that will be minimal. Do not cancel your BT payment details as billing doesn't follow those dates exactly, any remaining charges or refunds will then be automatically dealt with. Don't forget, BT will want their equipment back, take photos, keep the posting receipt (for 6 months) and track the package.

Thanks for that.
I was hoping I might be able to put my order in with a new provider, say 14 days before the BT contract ends, so not incurring any extra charges from BT.
Would that risk the switch happening before the contract ends, so incurring an early termination fee from BT?

This close to the end of the BT contract any extra days of "early termination fee" or "out of contract" costs will be buttons.
Don't sweat it, just put the order in 14 days prior to the term date, it won't really matter if it's a few days earlier or later, just don't end any DD arrangements.

As stated , it’s really not worth the stress of trying to get a migration done on the exact anniversary of taking out the existing deal so there are no absolutely no early termination charges or days paid for at the ‘out of contract’ rate …..say you pay £30 a month now and the out of contract rate is £45 , that’s £15 a month more (or .50p a day roughly) and the changeover is 2 days later than ideal, that’s £1 more than necessary (hardly worth mentioning) if the migration were done 2 days earlier than ideal , there is even less extra cost .
10 to 14 days before the end of your minimum term should be in the sweet spot to contact the new provider , the migration should be done so close to your required date as to be of little consequence as far as extra costs , the only thing to possibly have in mind is if your migration to a new provider is also across different networks ( and not staying on Openreach) , then if new network needs to be installed, you may be dependent on how quickly the new network provider can get their network installed and obviously there is the chance that they hit a snag actually installing their network, that delays whatever date you are given initially.

100% but just to add that if someone needs to cancel their existing service due to switching to a different delivery service (although not VM to an OR partner or vice versa) then it's usually 30/31 days notice required. OTS has made it so much easier for people to switch.
