BT Business broadband miss-sold?
An elderly neighbour has been sold by BT a Business Broadband package (a couple of years ago I think) that includes two Business class phones with facilities you'd normally expect in a business environment. All he wants is a standard line and two ordinary phones. He was shocked when I told him that my Broadband (FTTC) is £31 a month as he is paying £130 per month!! Surely this is wrong on several levels. To add injury to insult the extension phone doesn't work properly even though the handsets have been changed.

That does sound a bit odd.
How exactly did your elderly neighbour end up in this situation? Did he approach BT to ask for this service, or did he go to a broker, or did someone cold-call him?

It's impossible to say if it's wrong without knowing how the setup came about and if he was previously a business and just didnt change when he retired etc. It could as easily be a case of miss-buying than it is miss-selling
Have a friend who's about to turn 80 who still runs his international business with home offices in three countries. Age alone doesnt prove it was wrong.

I'll find out more about the sales process (but think it was BT rather than a Broker) and I think that he may well have continued as business after 'retirement' but the phones are relatively new and the line is 'digital' ie over the internet so again relatively new. He is very sharp in wit but has not kept up with the costs of his service relative to others as he had no comparison until our discussion.

So not mis-sold then if they signed up to business BB and telephone previously. As regards to the phones working or not, that's something they'll have to take up with BT Business and perhaps (if not still in minimum term) to cancel or see if they can switch to the domestic service.

It is not obvious that the neighbour has been mis-sold.
The extension phone not working might be down to the internal wiring which is the property of the elderly neighbour and not BTs to sort out.
