Travel Insurance
I booked a packaged holiday (flight and boat) on the Turkish seaside, not in the areas FCDO advises against. Need to get the travel insurance NOW. I checked insurefor, insureandgo and others, but I do not understand if everything (flights & accommodation), or most of it, is covered. Thanks.

Almost all holiday insurance will cover your transport to and from your holiday and pre-booked accommodation whilst on holiday against certain perils plus your possessions (within limits both total and individual items) plus medical expenses if you fall ill whilst abroad.
Better policies will also cover prebooked internal transfers, excursions/activities etc too.
They arent a golden dome and things can happen that may result in your not going which arent insured (eg if you are going with your spouse and they announce the day before that they want a divorce and you dont feel like going on a holiday with them). Given its a package holiday the vendor of package operator will also have liabilities for certain things, the insurer fills in the things they arent liable for… eg airline goes bust then the package operator has to deal with that whereas if you break your neck the day before going thats your travel insurers.

Thanks. I still find it difficult to understand what the insurance companies I mentioned cover. It seems to be very vague.

What scenarios are you concerned about? Policies are usually very specific about what they do and don’t cover.

The attached pictures (there's no direct link to this page) are from insureandgo. Cannot see what is compensated if the holiday is cancelled because of fuel/war.
"Cancellation" refers to clients cancelling the holiday.

Most insurance does not cover cancellation due to war.

Travel insurance generally doesn't cover war risks, although this article from GoCompare suggests that it's available if you're willing to pay for it.
If there's no jet fuel and the airline cancels your flight, the airline and your tour operator will be responsible for sorting things out.
Maybe read the MSE guide and then decide exactly what risks you need to insure against?

Travel insurance is written on a insured perils basis so it should be very clear if you actually read the wordings both what you are covered for and for what events… there can be some complexities around proximal cause but I dont think thats where you are getting stuck.
Lets take a random policy and their Cancellation Cover, if one of the insured perils occurs that results in you cancelling your trip they will pay for:
- travel and accommodation arrangements,
- excursions,
- tours,
- activities.
- This includes ski hire, ski school, and lift passes for winter sports trips, provided the appropriate premium has been paid.
It then lists the perils that are covered:
- Death, injury, illness or quarantine of you, someone you are travelling with, someone you are staying with, an immediate relative or close business associate
- Jury service or non-expert witness in a court of law
- Redundancy
- Your home is made uninhabitable (fire, flood, burst pipes etc)
- Armed forces or emergency services and called to duty
- Pregnancy
- Complication of pregnancy or childbirth
- FCDO advise against travel
So you wife dies? You're covered to cancel the holiday. Your wife files for divorce you arent covered
Obviously there are a long list of other sections covering missed departure, personal possessions, illness on holiday etc

War is in the general exclusions section of the policy - policy document here:

When you say 'boat' do you mean part/all of the holiday is a cruise? If so, that will be an additional cost to standard holiday insurance.

The package holiday includes flights and my cabin on a gulet.
