Vodafone BB instalation

The email states that installation will take up to 2 hours. City Fibre are installing it, I believe they have install BB before, not sure. I was previously with Virgin.

There are different types of cable, years ago it was copper. Is this installation likely to be a new cable, or perhaps there is one there already and the installation may only take 10 minutes?

Its a 1pm to 6pm installation, so hoping they will come sooner rather than later.

City Fibre are an altnet. They will bring their own fibre-optic cable to your property. They won't use any other provider's cable.

How long have you lived at your property? Have you had service via City Fibre at this property before?

Just looking at my old emails, I had a Vodafone Wi-Fi Hub delivered in March 2022; so maybe they will just connect the hub that was delivered last week.

What was the old Vodafone hub connected to before you had Virgin?

If it was a telephone socket then CityFibre will be running a new cable and installing an ONT box

If your address was recorded as previously having City Fibre based service, then you wouldn’t need a visit , the fact you are getting a visit indicates that you do need the City Fibre network installed because it doesn’t already exist , it will be provided either from a telegraph pole or underground, the Openreach copper cables or fibre cables , and or Virgin coaxial cables are of no use , CF will install their own fibre cable (even if it uses Openreach physical infrastructure like telegraph poles or duct ) and install a mains powered ONT .

It’s very unlikely the installation will take 10 mins , 2 hours may be correct if there is lot of work needed , and you need to be available for the entire appointment slot , they may turn up at 1pm or 6pm , either way they are ‘on time’ , you may prefer them turning up earlier rather than later , unfortunately that will be the luck of the draw.

As mentioned, as it's a CityFibre install, presumably you're looking at the Vodafone 900mb service, then it will be a new connection with a new cable install, probably underground hence the 2 hour window.

I saw a chap from CityFibre install the fibre near a relative of mine a couple of days ago. The fibre had been installed in the street about 18 months ago and this was a new owner moving in. The front garden of the house had been covered over with block paving and the guy was having to lift a full length of a couple of rows from the pavement to the house in order to run the cable.

He was there for quite a while.

The chap from CityFibre turned up on time, but he was unaware I already had the wiring from the previous install 2 years ago, so he was finished within 30 minutes.

It did take the router several hours for the light to turn white, it only did so, after I switched off and on.
