For those of you who've used WBAC to sell your car
Ideally I'm reaching out to those of you who've sold cars that'd be in & about the £2k area on a private sale rather than any of you who've sold a £20k car. I could be wrong but I'd guess there's not as much wiggle room for them to be knocking you down on a £20k car.
And in case anyone's picky, I'm not talking about a car that was previously £300k which is now £20k, I'm talking about a car that's only dropped a tad in value from new or from when you bought it.
Got my car up for sale & so far I've only had a couple people get in touch. Both wasters. I searched various sources to see what they were being listed at & went in middle of the park. First one came in with an offer lower than what the lowest ones are being listed for "because of the mileage" (120k on a 13yr old diesel & as said others at similar or more miles are being listed for a higher asking price (and lower tbh)).
Anyway, I've tried out WBAC & their max is £1,050. Not what I'd like to be accepting but I also don't want this dragging on.
Problem is, one of their assumptions is a 6 month MOT - which is tomorrow. Then it drops to £970.
I know it'll totally depend on my car but what I'm asking is - for those of you who've gone WBAC, how did the cash in your hand/bank account compare to the initial quote? So for example, their max right now is £1,050. Could I be expecting that to drop to £300 because I'm dealing with a haggler who likes to take the weewee? For the record I've been as accurate as I possibly can be in the assumptions etc.

We sold an older car to them a few years ago and they certainly bought it. The initial quote was on the low end, the guy scrutinised it and knocked quite a bit off, then there was a purchasing fee and a higher fee if you wanted paid that day.
There was a scandal a few years ago that the buyers were incentivised via their bonus scheme based on how much they could knock off.
So I'd put a finger in air guess that if WBAC are quoting £1050 online you're probably going to be walking away with somewhere around £700. They are very much a last resort option if you just want rid of it.
I found listing privately at a bit above the WBAC quote (to knock it down because buyers all want a discount) sold pretty well, but that was a while ago too (my last 2 changes have been trade-ins for convenience).
Motorway seems to get a decent rep for selling cars with better prices.1 -
Have you tried getting a quote from Motorway? I sold a (£28k) car through them a few years ago after a friend died. All fine.
There's also Carwow.

WBAC is simply convenience over value. By definition they will be looking for under trade, as the vehicle will go straight to an auction. The auction house has fees and WBAC has costs, then they need to make a margin.
Personally if I was selling this vehicle I would get a new 12 month ticket. Unless it's a lemon, stay away from WBAC.

So you are trying to sell a car with no MOT for £2k, you have picked the middle price on Autotrader and not around the lowest price. You have already suggested in other posts on here that there are a few niggles.
Put it up for ~£1,500 with hope for ~£1,200 or get it a new MOT and try for a little more.

Funny you guys mention Motorway. I was told about them & so I tried them. They wont touch me - because of the value of the car.
Haven't tried Carwow though. I'll give them a shot but I expect they'll be much the same as WBAC in terms of valuation and the additional haggle.
I know it's last resort , I'm just keeping my options open. Right now I've 3 cars which is 3 lots of insurance. I only want 2.
As this forum doesn't seem to let quotes be edited these days, I'm specifically highlighting..
"So you are trying to sell a car with no MOT for £2k"
When I respond with …. did you even read my post or just hazard a guess as to what it said & then put your post in based on what your guess was?

The OP said the '6 month left on the MOT' that WBAC require, ends tomorrow, so it currently has 6 months MOT on it.
We did sell a £5k car through Motorway and the price was much higher than WBAC offered before seeing it. I think it's because Motorway are an intermediary for dealers who will want to put the car on their forecourt. Been a while since I used WBAC but I was getting rid of an old Rover and the final offer was about half the online quote, ended up around £300. I decided not to proceed. On a £1,050 offer, I'd expect they'll try taking a couple of hundred off at least.
I think if it was me, I'd reduce the private sale price to say £1,500 and accept anything above £1,300. Better some private buyer gets a bargain, then WBAC pull your pants down IMO.

I'm currently only listing on the free places.
I might chance eBay. I'd rather not (because I'll have to take a hit in fees) but I really want it gone.
All the while it's not selling the MOT (you know, the one that apparently it doesn't have) is running down. I don't want to have to shell out for another MOT if I don't have to. I'd expect it to pass but what if it doesn't & it needs a few £100 spending on it. Brakes or suspension or whatever. The buyer isn't going to care that I just spent £300 getting it right, they'll probably try knock me down £300 on top of it all.
Also while it's sat there, the brakes are looking rusty & the battery is draining. Buyer wont listen to rusty brakes because it's sat there, they'll just use it as another haggle tool because that's all these people do. I've actually disconnected the battery totally though so it drains as little as possible.

Have to say you are not painting an attractive picture of the car. For me, I'd go for the new MOT regardless, its a selling point and could mean the difference between shifting it or not, even if it costs a bit more. Also get it spotless and looking its best. You want to be one of those that get chosen not passed by.
I haven't actually used WBAC, but have had a couple of quotes from them. Both very low as they want to make an easy quick profit, so its never going to be attractive. Had much better success with Carwow, but they generally prefer good spec cars.

Bang on with that ‘finger in the air’ estimate Herzlos. My brother in law sold his late wife’s car a few weeks back and was initially quoted £1075. Despite the WBAC guy repeatedly saying what a nice little car it was (& it was in really good condition) he ended up with about £770 in his bank.
I would have tried to move it on privately but he just wanted rid of it so agreed to the deal.1 -
End of the day, the car is only worth what someone is prepared to pay for it.
The price you see on Autotrader etc, is very rarely the price they sell for. Even more so with a car in your range.
WBAC go straight to auction.
