Vinted - shouldn't they be regulated?
Hi. I am really unhappy with Vinted and asking should Vinted really be regulated. My wife sold four items in two different transactions to the same buyer. One of the items, a porcelain plant pot was damaged. It had been wrapped in bubble wrap and put into a cardboard box. The day that payment was sent to be sent, Vinted informed us that the buyer had reported the item damaged. They asked for pictures of the item packaging, which my wife hadn't taken. On that basis they stated my wife hadn't packaged the item properly and returned the payment for all the items, stating it was a final decision, as even though it was two separate sales, the item did not meet the product description and therefore all sales are cancelled. When we asked for our goods back, they stated it wasn't their responsibility, and we should ask the buyer directly!
I think this is a disgrace. The buyer has now got three perfectly good items. My wife is upset but as she said it was only £3. Shouldn't Vinted be regulated, as buyers look like they have the upper hand and are protected by Vinted.

This is in the wrong forum so I'll report it for you to be moved.
Vinted is no different to Facebook Marketplace and to an extent eBay.
This sort of thing happens all the time on those sort of platforms as well.
The buyer will always have the upper hand on sites like Vinted and eBay, its basically a one way trust. You're dependent on honest buyers which is the case 99% of the time, until you get the 1%…0 -
Try being a seller on Amazon if you think Ebay and Vinted is bad…. you get refunded as soon as the item is scanned often

Who would they be regulated by? And how would this help your case?
You say the buyer has the upper hand but they don't seem to have done anything wrong. They paid for an item and got a broken item.
(Incidentally if you check the packing directions from Royal Mail, then a fragile item should have been wrapped in bubble wrap in an inner box which is placed in an outer box with a gap of at least 4 cm filled with packing peanuts or similar)

You want a new government department to be set up to regulate Vinted? How much would that cost the taxpayer?
I put it to you that government spending should be focused on what creates the maximum benefit to the most people and to the people most in need. Protecting people selling goods on Vinted doesn't seem to fit that pattern.

Moral of story.
Sell each item on it's own listing. Never combine items even when going to same buyer.

OP's point is that items were on multiple sales but that Vinted still cancelled the transaction that was OK…

"My wife sold four items in two different transactions to the same buyer. "
"even though it was two separate sales"
It sounds like the OP's wife possibly grouped the 4 items into 2 lots.
Or maybe the buyer grouped them together into a 'bundle'.
If the payments were split into 2 separate transactions and sent in 2 separate parcels, I would be annoyed if Vinted refunded the buyer for both transactions.

Is there a Consumer Rights question here?
I think this thread may have been more appropriate to this board:

A porcelain pot wrapped just in bubblewrap and a cardboard. I'm not surprised it arrived damaged.
