Any advice on which investment app to choose?

Agree, it is geared towards the trader who is fixated on the current unrealised gain of their open positions, and what hot stocks are available to trade. The pertinent info for us boring folk (what to we own and what is it currently valued at, documents, etc) is somewhat buried. But I can live with that as I rarely log in and instead track my portfolio via spreadsheet.

How is the tax for investment income? Added to our main annual income and if we go over the £50270 tax threshold we have to pay 40%?
Thanks

Depends what form the income takes. Dividend tax rates have already increased by 2% this tax year so 10.75% for basic rate and 35.75% for higher rate. There is a £500 0% band as well. Interest tax rates are increasing next year to 22% for basic rate and 42% for higher rate. For interest the 0% band is £1k for basic rate taxpayers and £500 for higher rate.
If you own shares in a company then your income will be paid as dividends. If you own bonds (like gilts) your income will be paid as interest. If you own shares in a REIT then that has a different tax regime as tax is deducted at source. The tax rates will be 22% and 42% from 27/8 on but 22% will have been deducted at source.
Or maybe you mean CGT rates? Different again. 18% and 24%.
