Again to be clear, Amazon Prime is the subscription service (~£100/yr) that gets you a streaming service for films (Prime Video) /music, ebooks, free delivery and some other stuff. There is a level of sub that just gets you Prime Video access without the other things.

An Amazon account is free, what you need to access anything on Amazon including movies that you've purchased/bought/procured or otherwise ponied up for, giving you the right to watch them.

You can't steal a copyright. That's akin to claiming that someone can "steal your human rights." It's a right granted to you by legislation. It can be taken away from you by the government or "infringed" by others (including the government) but it cannot be "stolen." Although it is sometimes referred to colloquially as copyright "theft" it really isn't, and the introduction of that term appears to be an attempt by the industry to muddy the waters and make it appear to be a criminal act when for the average person it would be a tort.

People only get prosecuted for things such as counterfeiting, or other money making ventures. Just torrenting a TV show isn't going to get your collar felt, but you might end up with a court claim form being posted through your letterbox.

I always buy physical copies of films and music for this very reason. Nobody can take it away from me!

Erm, perhaps I badly explained my analogy. It was about a can of beans.

As others have mentioned, it's a very poor analogy.

Heinz sell beans to Tesco, which then sells sells beans to you. They might have 100 cans of beans on the shelf. Once they've sold 100 cans, they have no beans to sell. Meanwhile the beans are yours to do with as you wish.

Tesco also sells DVDs. Paramount might have sold them 20 copies of "The Big Short". Once they've sold 20 copies, they have no more to sell. Meanwhile the DVD and it's content is yours to do with as you wish (subject to UK copyright law).

Paramount also have a deal with Amazon to sell licences to view "The Big Short". Amazon can sell as many of these as they want; them selling licences to others does not affect their ability to sell a licence to you. And, when Paramount's deal with Amazon ends, Amazon will rescind those licenses and all the purchasers will find they can no longer watch it.

Tell that to the thief that took my 300 CDs when I was a student; many of the limited editions or "live" albums were irreplaceable.

Whereas when the Mrs lost her iPod all the music was returned to her replacement one within an hour of it turning up.
