Amazon Prime movies
A word of caution: movies 'purchased' on Amazon Prime and downloaded to your device can only be watched by using their app. Of course, you can always purchase their tablet.
IMHO, they do not make this sufficiently clear on their website, though I'm sure that it is likely conveniently hidden somewhere inside of the small print.

You do not need to buy one of their Fire tablets, the Prime Video app can be installed on Android, iOS, Windows or Mac devices, so pretty much any consumer device can download and play the video (Linux excluded, although yes I know Android is a Linux fork before someone chimes in).

Thank-you for your response Matt. If i could just pont out that I never suggested that you had to buy a Fire tablet, just that was an alternative. You still have to use the app though.
An interesting sideline - when does a 'purchase' not become a purchase? When it is unlikely to be available in the future?
Please to be discriminated against by financial institutions. Thank-you for taking advantage of my Dyspraxia.

Bear in mind that you most likely don't purchase "a digital copy of" the movie in an online platform, you purchase a "licence to watch" the movie.

Thank-you. Yes, but that should be made absolutely clear at the time.
Supermarket manager "I'm sorry Sir, but you have purchased a container with an illustration of what beans in tomato sauce looks like. You weren't execting any actual beans were you?".

It is, if you care to read the T&C's.
And that's a silly analogy.

Substitute Gift Card for Can of Beans and you'd have a closer analogy .. "You weren't expecting that gift card to contain actual cash money, did you?" 😉

One great thing about the demise of CDs, DVDs, Blurays, etc… is that we now no longer own any media. Great for the corporations of course, not so great for the consumers though.
You have access to a service's library as long as you are willing to pay the subscription charge. Stop paying and suddenly you realise that you no longer have access to anything.

Having to use the platforms app is normal, they use encryption to reduce the chance of piracy. This is only possible if they control the playback.

Not strictly true of Amazon (and others) where you can "buy" a copy of a movie or TV series. Yes you need an Amazon account to view the media, no it doesn't need to be a subscription account, a free one will give you access.
Recently gave up BT TV, have a couple of paid-for movies on that platform. Can still watch via BT TV app but not on the (surrendered) BT TV box.
All good until you lose access to your account.

You do not purchase a copy, you purchase the riight to view the film/music/book. Should you lose your amazon account. You have lost the right to watch/listen/read.
