Complaint about care home
Comments

his room is locked and the key is kept in the office when he is out so other residents are unlikely to be able to go into his room and take stuff.

the care home manager states that the cleaner washes residents clothes at the care home and she washes them separately so that residents clothes are not together, but i am not sure how practical this would be. there are 5 residents at the care home.

That is possible with so few resident's.

The cleaner probably doesnt remember who the unlabelled clothes belong to! If I take my adult son's clothes home to do his washing (he doesnt live with us) and mix them in with my husband's, I have to ask them whose belongs to who and thats just with 2 lots of clothes and living in the same house as one of the wearers.
Put some name tags in and see if the situation improves.

Does the Freedom pass have his name and/or photo on it?
If so, and anyone has taken it, it should still be quite easy to identify if still in the nursing home.

they can't search everyone's rooms. but none of the residents will need it as they all have their own. can't imagine anyone would use a Freedom Pass as it has the photo on it unless they are real chancers.

I will start putting his name on the new clothes as strangely enough the old clothes don't seem to be going missing, which is why I am suspicious. I am thinking that I will need to buy him second hand clothes so no one will want to steal them, but he is very fussy and want to wear nice clothes.

When my late Mum went into a care home I was asked to put her room number on the label of every single item of clothing. I used a Sharpie pen to label everything with 36. It worked.

I have ordered labels with his name so I will stick them on the clothes that are most likely to go missing, namely new clothes! Interesting about the Sharpie pen, never heard of them before.

They're just a brand of marker pen. There are specific fabric pens you can buy which withstand repeated washing/drying and you can overwrite as they fade. The issue with iron-on labels is that the adhesive fails over time whereas marker pen is there more or less permanently. Here's the type of pen I mean, though I'm not recommending any particular one:
