Thanks for the TECH information about MESH, I was not involved with that so I know very little about it, I just know that their son who does not live with them tried to put one in and it was not cheap, actually top of the line in reviews at the time.

The initial response was to try to FIX what was broken but they have accepted that they need to get a different system. They are pretty p'ed off with BT for charging them so much for what is the most basic Fibre, but I think this is what happens with BT customers, especially elderly ones. I wonder if we need something on the bill or a letter sent once a year that informs customers of best deals available from their BB supplier, like we do for energy. Problem is they never saw their bills, they are paperless and nobody in their family "owns" organising it.

It does not help that consumer shows say things like "it is not worth changing your broadband to save a few quid because of the nightmare stories of waiting for months for one cog in the wheel". Ironically, in those situations it was BT/EEWifi that was proposed as a temporary solution along with some sort of mobile wifi.

For me BT/EEWifi is a dead product, I used to recommend BT to people because of it, especially people that traveled for their work.

The "broken" system has been working for YEARS, probably since 2016, what broke it the implementation of a new login system.

I already explained that they had an issue with MESH and so if I say the word they close down. I have friends with Eero and another system that I forget the name of.

The main home is very old and listed, previously the most minor works caused a wall to collapse, so they will not go there. The extension used to be some sort of stables or outhouses for storage, they were not listed but they building has to be built in a way that somehow reduced risk to the main building. I gather it has some sort of foundation that prevent any movement but also it has a two steel frames. A former work colleague who did site surveys for business networks had a look years ago, he said the newish structure was acting like a three sided cage, on the side of main building, less so on sides of the extension and the far side. They would spend the £1500 if it worked but I think there might be a better way to try first, perhaps an unlimited mobile data contract with a purpose built router for 5g albeit that I doubt they will get 5g immediately. I asked them if there was actually anything in the main building that they need and it seems not, there are some CCTV cameras indoors, but everything goes back to a cloud service.

They have already got the Lebara mobile SIM's for their out and about needs, they have 9 months to figure out if it is enough or whatever.

I am not ignoring powerlines, it is just they are entirely separate, of course they might have a purpose inside the extension once they have some sort of broadband in there.

I don't think I was being aggressive at all, nor rude, I simply saw no new value in your post which was simply repeating things that others had said, you could just like their comment. It is not really helpful to just repeat as it creates bloat and makes the really useful posts harder to find.

If I have offended you in some way I gather you can set the forum to ignore me and my posts.

I know a number of people on BT/EE who have no issues but then they don't pay ridiculous prices.

Not a fan of phone in shows so can't comment on presenters being upset at a delay, but as I wrote earlier not something I've ever come across.

Have friends who are very happy with the Vodafone 500Mbps offering. I've never thought to ask them if it "feels" okay.
