G3 paint protection $399- No. Choose your own Magic Fluid and put it on yourself, easy enough before the new car novelty wears off.

Alloy insurance (36 months) $499- No. Put the £500 in a cash ISA or something, and use it to pay for refurbishment (or try not to kerb them and be £500+ interest up)

Minor damage protection insurance (36 months) $499- No. Put the £500 in a cash ISA or something and use it to pay for "chips away" or whatever, or be £500 + interest up.

Dashcam- get one that just plugs into the 12v socket. When you take your car for service they want it disconnected anyway.

Dashcams are really useful when liability is disputed- e.g. proving that the car in front did reverse into you at the traffic lights, and may come in handy for incidents when parked, (provided that the offending car is actually registered properly and the driver doesn't just deny the incident)

However they are no substitute for insurance with a low excess! (You might as well use some of that £2000 to reduce your excess)

I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

This car was bought from a family member who had had it from new.

    Who's family?

If it was dealers. Then large pinch of salt.

To do a £ sign hold down Alt and type 0163 on your keypad (not the top row of numbers) then when you let go of the Alt key the magic happens

I’m assuming your buying new/nearly new from a dealer, it’s up to you if you want to get the extras , however, you might be able to haggle if you want, say, the alloy insurance, as for the dashcam, I have just bought another blackvue front and rear as my old one ( 6 years) stopped working, mines through a blackvue battery which is hardwired to the car and gives longer coverage in parking mode, I had mine installed by a local auto electrician so it might be worth getting a quote from one near you, the blackvue,s are not cheap so it comes down to your budget, the footage easily downloads to my iPhone with clear footage..

Here I refer to the car which has been written off. My family. As this previous car wasn't from a dealer I didn't buy any extras with it.

The items you quote are worthless add-ons. Gap insurance can be worthwhile if you are worried about a write off - but you can buy that for 1/4 the price at a price comparison site.

Hope the dealership provided Lube with the quotes.

How big are the alloy wheels, Mine are 16 inch and there are potholes everywhere.

    No issues after 10 years.

My mates insignia has 19" wheels and has cracked two wheels and bent one.

    So size is everything.

I have 2 dash cams, On is a DOD never caught on in the UK, but fantastic video, day and night.

After 10 years the internal battery is failing, but still works fine.

A Nextbase 3 something in the rear, both were fitted by me.

With 12v cig lighter, never bothered with hard wiring.

Only issue with nextbase is the cards need formatting every month.

Appreciate the advice to avoid the add-ons - especially the advice to stick the ££ in a cash ISA - to be withdrawn if needed. The dealer is trying to persuade me to go with their finance too, rather than wait for the settlement figure - I would have happily bitten had it been 0% finance but it isn't, so I won't be doing that even if there's a gap between the settlement figure and the price of the new car…he won't be getting his bonus on my spending.

    By the way I remembered.

    ££

But I am DEFINITELY getting the dashcam - I was lucky - the (young) driver stopped, admitted liability and I had a witness who also stopped and gave me his details and called the police. And, because it wasn't my fault I've been provided with a courtesy car - but seeing how accident claims are processed has been an eye opener - this is my first ever claim and we've passed 4 weeks now. I've SORNed my crashed car as the month end is looming and I can get the tax refunded.

Is your old car still with you as you need to be certain it isn't parked on a public road. Had a friend who's car was written off after being assessed at a local garage and left on the road for about three weeks waiting for collection by the insurance company.
