Spending diaries.

sophiesmum - thanks for the link the spending diary is ace and prompted us to remember what we've spent (little shops we'd forgotten about). i tried doing it in a book before but found it a kerfuffle as i wanted to itemise things into too many categories. this way is much easier.:j
hope we remember to use it every time we shop. married to the man of my dreams! 9-08-090 -
I'm loving the spending diary -I hope I'm not spending more simply so that I can enter it in my diary -I love seeing those pie charts bounce down:D
I was wondering what categories people are using ? I have got;
food
household (cleaning stuff, medicines, tampons, drynites  stationery etc)
alcohol
books and DVDs
postage
travel (ds1's bus fare, petrol and carpark tickets)
clothing
school expenses
birthdays & special occasions
BTW this is just my spending which is mostly cash, all the household bills and big stuff are dealt with by OH via standing order.0 -
groceries,
household,
snacks (DH has a tendency to buy chocolate bars and I want to show him how much spends on it in a year...),
alcohol
Amazon postage
Ebay postage
Travel
Clothing
Special Occassions
Baby

Snacks is a good one, I think I don't buy snacks, but I do. When I'm in town I call in at Thorntons far too often than is good for me or my purse0

Hello all, I have been using this site for tips and ideas for ages but have never got round to joining for posting until now. Firstly big thank you's to all the posters who have encouraged me to get on top of my finances!!!
With regard to spending diarys, I myself use Microsoft Money to record all my spending down to the last penny. I am a big fan of anything budget wise (not so good on sticking to them mind!) I have recently got a new mobile because my contract was up and managed to get one with pda functions. This is great because now i have Ultrasoft Money on my mobile which i can use to enter all my daily transactions and can update this with Microsoft Money when I get home. I used to write everything down on paper, but sometimes it can get a bit messy if you dont' remember to record everything on your PC all the time, and I like my accounts to balance lol0 -

How is everyone else getting on?r.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
Certainly keeping up with mine R.mac. I've really suprised myself how I've stuck to this where other methods have failed and I also love watching the charts bounce down. Turning into a money geek and I love it!:money:”Pour yourself a drink, (tea for me now)
