Santander Edge Saver ending.

Gobsmacked.
So you're saying that for 2 whole years I could have had £4,000 of instant access money in a second Edge Saver earning at least 1.25% more?? That's £100! I don't know how I missed that. I've just tried to apply but can't remember how you avoid the monthly fee 🤔

You avoid the monthly fee by not meeting the funding and/or DD requirements of the account. The ability to open a second account is quite well masked by the discussion in the eligibility criteria around holding one sole and one joint account, but holding two sole accounts is not excluded. IIRC, people have had difficulty opening a second sole account by some methods.

I'm single, so that's the reason I've not had two. I've just spent an hour reading old Edge threads (it's remarkable how many unrelated threads contain the word edge or edging!) and only @bobblehat reports opening two soles, but doesn't state the method.

I'm not single but still have two sole Edge current/saver accounts.
Can't remember the exact application method for the second but don't recall it being in any way difficult.
Would point out that the cashback sites have £20 available for opening one though.

When I found out about it not so long ago, I was unable to apply via the app, which said I wasn't eligible "because of the other accounts I hold". I suppose it is more likely to work via the website while logged out. To get the cashback you'd be applying as a new customer anyway. In one of the thread discussing it, it was suggested that it was easier to get a second account in the past.

I only have browser access but it's a non-starter because I can't even get a second current account. Thanks for your time trying to help though.

It's not been possible for some time now to get a second sole Edge account.
Those who have them before the clampdown should cherish them 😎3 -
I always used bot to close my Edge Savers. Yes, you get the interest whilst you are waiting. It will be a lower rate for the waiting time unless you request closure earlier whilst the interest is still 6%.
You can have 2 Edge Savers if you open 2 Edge current accounts. Santander allows 1 sole and 1 joint Edge CA per person. We have 4 Edge savers (2 per person).

I've noticed some people think that they have to be married or live at the same address to be able or to open a joint account. This is not true, you can open joint account with anyone as long as they are eligible.

While this is true, a joint account creates a financial association that may harm your ability to open credit accounts in the future. It also allows the joint account holder to access any money or credit facilities associated with the joint account. So it is not a good idea to open a joint account with just anyone.
