UC payment rates question

I have just looked at my payment for assessment period 24 Mar - 23 April and my standard allowance is showing as £400.14.

I thought as the new amount from 6 April is £441.85 I would have a little bit extra this month, as my assessment period is part 25/26 allowance and part 26/27.

Have they made a mistake? Or don't I get the new amount until next month?

The new benefit rates for UC apply for whole assessment periods only and come into effect on 6th April (technically it's for assessment periods starting on or after the first Monday on or after the 6th April).

You will see the increases in your payment at the end of May.

as NedS says, My assessment period ends on the 29th and so I don't see the rise until the 6th June

I did wonder if that was the case but I haven't seen anything that says that! I will look forward to my rise next month!

I thought it was the just first Monday after (not on), so the 13th April for uprating.

It took me a while to find it (this comes up every year!)

The legislation says (thanks @Yamor):

(10)[F40Subject to subsection (10ZA),] an order under this section—

(a)shall be framed so as to bring the alterations to which it relates into force—

(i)in the week beginning with the first Monday in the tax year

In tax year 2026/27, that is Monday 6th April to my interpretation. However, I do note my google search found other reputable benefit sites stating 13th April, so clearly there is some confusion somewhere.

I have a personal interest as my own claim dates straddles the affected period, and I note looking back to April 2020 where the 6th also fell on a Monday, that claims were uprated from 6th not the 13th (my own included).
