Stock markets are too high and set to fall?

Oh so only a tiny 17 million people then 🙃

Only the percentage matters! Just because 90% of the population are feeling dire economic pain, doesn't mean that the remaining 10% wont support a bouyant market.

I think it may have been mentioned here just a few times how it's a mistake to equate markets with the economy.

Not forgetting that institutional investors account for something like 3/4 of all stock market investments - retail investors don't move the dial nearly as much

So, no relationship whatsoever then…:)

Not a contemporaneous one. So one should be careful comparing the same time point and saying 'markets are doing X while the economy is doing Y'

I don't think that any titbit (because we're not American) from the Guardian should be taken at face value because it is likely to be cynically taken out of context and then published to comfortingly reinforce the world view and opinions of their readership.

I would like to think it is possible to calculate (at least roughly) the figures based on ultimate ownership. Institutional investors are ultimately owned by people as is everything.

This just brings to attention another dynamic, 75% of these investments, buying, selling & gambling are guided by people who won't need to downsize in any big old deep long dips we will see.
These 75% just need a nice little cash buffer as their income reduces as their FUM (funds under management) drops and and tell people it's a great time to buy units as indeed it is.

I suspect this has been reported here many times but seeing the numbers in black and white again tells me something is seriously "wrong".
7 companies in the US account for 20%-25% of every publicly listed company in the world. Surely its madness (and apologies if I should start a new thread) ?
