Could my friends car, parked on my drive stop me from selling my house?

    Surely there's a dodgy character down the pub who, if you slipped him £100, would take it away and dismantle it for scrap. (Only works if there is no CCTV covering your driverway.)

  • Thank you all for your comments. It looks like I will need to make an appointment with the Citizens Advice Bureau. Any more information I get, I will post in this thread for anyone else who may have a similar problem.

    Given you're selling, why can't your solicitor help (or at least point you towards one who can)?

    What does your friend actually say when you tell him it needs to go?

    Not ideal, but at least buyers will know it’ll be gone if they buy the place. A neighbour having an eyesore car on their drive would be more of a hindrance;

    I once noped out of a house after seeing the next door neighbour’s massive liveried horse van parked on their driveway, literally 4 feet from the front door - where it would stay at least 6 days a week. Though not the only reason not to buy it, it sure doesn’t help.

    Why do you call them a 'friend'? They obviously hate you.

    Basically you're legally obliged to inform the buyer of the situation. Then it will be up to them. If you don't disclose, your buyer will be able to successfully sue you to reclaim costs involved in getting the car shifted, which if it goes to court could be enormous.

    It's only a "situation" if the OP doesn't get the car shifted by completion. And there are ways of shifting cars without involving lawyers…

    Simple - contact your friend tell him the situation

    Be firm but reasonable and set a timetable for him to move the car.

    Or it gets moved and forward him the bill.

    If he is your friend he will understand if not well that is his problem.
