Following Passive Investing
I followed a link given for the Monevator site and came across an article about Passive Investing.
I wanted to find out more about this by looking at the ETF's they talked about.
When I went to a couple of the platforms I've seen mentioned in this forum, I couldn't see those ETF's.
At first I thought that was because I was inexperienced at looking at these sites, or maybe not every platform sells the majority of ETF's.
Is it a case of trial and error to find out who sells a particular ETF?
Could I do a specific type of search that would bring up those platforms selling a particular ETF?

is one such article there but perhaps not the one you're referring to?
However, it makes it clear that passive investing isn't all about ETFs, so don't take away the idea that passive = ETFs!
Can you link to the article you're referring to, or name the ETFs you're struggling to find?

ETFs are a more advanced investment option than the more common OEICs/unit trusts.
If you are looking at whole of market platforms, you should find they have virtually all ETFs available for retail in the UK. They won't have ETFs not authorised for UK retail.
Some platforms are direct asset focused (assets listed on the LSE or other european markets). Some are OEIC/UT only and others have both.

And for some platforms, you have different sections / tabs / search boxes for funds (OIECs) and shares (company stocks, ETFs, ITs)

The funds Monevator mentioned were:
PACW
MWOZ
WRDA
XUSE
SPXL
LEMAIt was a couple of weeks ago that I looked, but then I got side-tracked.
Trading 212 is the platform I've seen mentioned most, but can't remember the names of the others I tried.
It was the Monevator article about Passive Investing. IIRC it emphasised the point that minimising costs was extremely important for maximising gains, and linked to another article about low cost ETF's for this purpose.0 -
It was the Monevator article about Passive Investing.
Nearly every article on Monevator is about Passive Investing. Can you post a link to the one you mean.

One should seek to minimise costs, but not to the exclusion of everything else. How much cheaper are these ETFs compared to the closed equivalent that's actually available on a platform you want to use?

All of those apart from LEMA are available on T212, and many other ETF selling platforms too. There are many alternatives to LEMA that are available instead.

Which article? Why those ETFs? They are not the most popular ones. You need to decide what you are trying to achieve before choosing funds. It is best to keep things simple. That will not help you to write a blog post every week though.

The webpage was: https://monevator.com/low-cost-index-trackers/
A search on PACW showed it on the London Stock Exchange.
At Trading 212, when I selected London Stock Exchange and ETF on the two dropdowns, only about 20 funds appeared, and PACW wasn't there.
Is there some other selection I need to make?0 -
I wouldn't choose PACW personally. A bit too weird. What's not to like about ACWI?
That said, T212 has a lot more than 20 ETFs so something isn't quite right with your approach.
