Transfer of property ownership

I'm looking for some advice regarding the transfer of property ownership. My parents have lived in their matrimonial home for 25 years, and at the moment, my mother is the sole owner. We are planning to add my father to the title, so it’s jointly held in both their names.

There’s no mortgage on the property, and we’ve had quotes from a number of conveyancing solicitors for the transfer, ranging from £900 + VAT. However, this seems a bit high to me, especially as, unless I’m misunderstanding, I feel this should be a simple process. I’m wondering whether it’s something we could do ourselves, or if it’s worth paying for a solicitor to handle it.

Has anyone done a similar transfer or have any advice on whether this is something we should handle independently or if we should stick with a solicitor?

Thanks in advance for your help!
