Adding Wife To Title Deeds
Hi,
what would be the process for adding my wife to the title deeds of my house? Can I DIY using forms from Land Registry or would it be better to pay a conveyancing solicitor?
We would be tenants in common and it may not be a 50/50 split.

You can certainly DIY it, but if the split is not to be the default 50/50 then you will also need a deed of trust drawn up and to make sure this is done correctly I would use a solicitor for this.

Would you expect the cost to be in the region of local prices for the conveyancing work done when buying a house or is this more specialised?

it should be considerable cheaper than that.
Are you sorting out your wills at the same time?1 -
Clearly relationships never ever ever fail.
Artful, married 3 times…..

Is there a mortgage on the property? That would complicate things in that you would need to remortgage or you're giving part of the charged asset away
Officially in a clique of idiots1 -
Assuming it's the marital home, it's unlikely to make a difference in a divorce which spouse(s) have the registered title.

See this from the experts..
nb this is for England situations, other countries (NI, Wales.. etc ) has different processes.
It's more complicated than many people think. Careful now!

I think my will should be ok as it already gives her the right to live in the property if I die. Presumably she will need to update hers to give me the same right if she predeceases me so thanks for the heads up.

There is no mortgage so that should make things easier!

Only got one quote so far from a local solicitor who I have used for conveyancing work before.
Happy with the quote but they will only act if I first take Asset Protection Advice from them at a cost of £350 + VAT.
Is this usual?
