N180 – ELMS Legal & email/post
Hi all - long time lurker, first time poster.
I’m currently at the N180 stage for a claim from Excel Parking, with ELMS Legal Ltd acting for them.
I emailed my completed N180 to the CNBC at DQ.CNBC@justice.gov.uk. I got the automated response straight away, but nothing since- no actual confirmation of receipt. Is that normal or should I be chasing it?
I also CC’d ELMS Legal using their general info@elmslegal.co.uk email address when sending the N180. They then replied with the following:
“Please note that we do not accept service via email.
Please send any court documents via post to: 31 Handley Street, Sleaford, Lincolnshire, NG34 7TQ.”
So just wanted to check:
- Does their reply count as acknowledgement/receipt of the N180, or do I still need to send it by post as they’ve requested?
- Is it normal not to receive anything further from CNBC beyond the automated response (or should I be chasing)?
Don’t want to mess anything up at this stage so just checking I’m doing it right.
Thanks in advance.

1 correct, if they don't like email, its their problem, but doesn't really matter
2 check your MCOL claim history to ensure that its been logged
Your MCOL claim history shows the progress for now, so keep following the 8 steps

Thanks for the quick response.
I have checked MCOL but the latest update still shows 'DQ sent to you on 26/03/2026'. I sent the N180 a week ago so hopefully it will update soon.

Its usually around 11 to 14 days, so should happen next week so check before next Friday

Did Elms provide an email address on their DQ forms ?

I'd post it just to be safe.

Yes - good catch. It's debtassist@elmslegal.co.uk.
Their DQ forms only arrived the other day so I will resend the completed N180 to the above email.
Given that I'm now beyond the 14 day response date, would this actually make any difference?

No, as long as the CNBC have it, no problem

Quick update: my mediation call was booked on a date I marked as unavailable on the N180. The email even says those dates were taken into account. I called to try and rearrange but no success. I'm just going to have to make time on my holiday (which seems entirely unfair).
So just a heads up - don’t rely on your 'unavailable dates' being honoured for mediation appointments.

Either be available for it on holiday OR, it doesnt matter if you miss it , OR nominate someone else to take the call, its no biggie
2 -
Or just ignore the call makes zero difference
