EON next drivesmart V5.1 tariff pricing changed?

Hello everyone.

I've had a hunt but cant find an answer so hopefully someone can help me.

Please see a screenshot of my Tariff below. I was certain that my peak rate was around 28p per kwh and my off peak rate was 6.5p per kwh, I understand that rates were lowered recently due to government changes but this seems far too good to be true, this will more than halve my EV charging costs?

It is correct until the end of your fix, roughly 3.5p came off both peak and off-peak rate, many on pre March EV fixes have very cheap driving until the end of their fix. If you have gas it is almost certainly cheaper to use your immersion heater for the next few months.

Oh wow this is brilliant. Usually im pretty good with tracking pricing in the news but life has been pretty busy lately.

Great to hear that my already cheap 75 mile daily commute is going to be half the price too until September :)

Best avoid reading what will happen when you come to find a new tariff in September.

Or they could take a peak and put the savings they make away for those potential more costly times from Septemebr

i have to admit..... im already curious what the off peak rates are likely to be come September...... as I can leave or change from my current fix penalty free at any time I'll be sure to keep looking at options.

Frustrating that EV tariffs aren't on any comparison sites.

What's your current best guess on when I should look to refix?

Yes I agree! My partner and I have already agreed to leave our Direct Debit payments alone to hopefully build up a healthy buffer for when it's time to move on.

Current guesses are 8p per kWh, which is only 1p more than most fixes started on before the cuts, no nothing horrific.

It wasn't too many years ago that you could charge an EV for free at many public chargers. I fear that charging an EV will get more and more expensive as time progresses. And then there is the mileage tax you will soon have to pay; 3p per mile would equate to about 9p tax per kWh. So you could soon be paying more in tax than the cost of the fuel, as I understand it already is with petrol and diesel.

Simply put the government cannot let EV's go untaxed when the tax gained from other fuels is going down due to those taking up the EV lifestyle.

No one surely expected the gravy train to last forever did they?

It is neither a "lifestyle" nor a "gravy train", just a rational choice.

If the government were being rational it would make sense to keep increasing the fuel duty every year as that is the polluting fuel and add pay per mile for all vehicles, not just EVs, or not charge any vehicle per mile and recover the cost via other taxation.
