Theres a chance that your phone has been backing itself up to Google ( not sure if that function is on by default)
So you might have the option to restore from that back up on the new phone ?

Go to drive.google.com.

On the left-hand sidebar, click on Storage (it usually shows your storage usage).

In the top-right area of the page, click the Backups link (near the gear icon or just above the file list).

A list of all device and WhatsApp backups will appear.

Thanks everyone. Off to Argos to buy a phone as their website ordering seems to be broken. Aiming for the pixel 9a or the honor 400. Rather limited by what appears to be in stock as I need to get it set up before travelling home in a couple of days (train ticket on phone, not sure whether mum's printer will work for it!)
