Broken - replacement - mobile
I have managed to break my existing mobile (xaomi rednote 10 pro) today. It got trapped and I can see small cracks coming from the camera in the screen. It's a lovely phone but several years old now.
Looking at a rapid replacement, I have in mind the Honor 400, which has decent enough reviews generally and for its cameras at that price point (the xaomi's have bad reviews for adverts on most apps).
My question is, when I get the new phone (whichever one it is), how do I transfer information from the old phone to the new phone, when I can't switch the old phone on?
Many apps will send a one time passcode to my mobile to do anything - when I can't access that phone.
Do I just try to take the SIM out of the old phone and put it into the new one?
I think the First Direct app will be tricky as it requires input from the old phone and the new one. But others must have successfully managed this before me!
Thanks for any guidance.

If you cannot access the old phone at all then all you can do is put the SIM in the new phone, connect to your mobile network and WiFi and go from there.
Go to Play Store, log in to your Google account where hopefully you have backed up your data, download all your apps to the new phone.
Then it's the tedious job of opening each app and logging in, hopefully you've saved your usernames and passwords on Google or another password manager, any codes will come to the new phone via the mobile network.
There will always be a workaround, people lose their devices all the time, you'll just have to look at the FAQs on the website as to how to reconnect with a new device.4 -
At least with First Direct, you are able to phone up and speak to someone, a real human being in the UK, although their Yorkshire or Scottish accents are sometimes difficult to understand! 😉

As to FD app. Ring up before doing anything. It needs old phone removing from their system.
Having had Honor phones in the past, latest offerings are not that good. Moved to one plus nord 4 much better
Mrs has a Xiaomi Redmi 14 pro Plus (same price on Amazon as Honor 400) she loves it over her old Honor 200
Phones have apps to transfer apps & photo's etc over. One time passcodes not required to transfer. Staying within own brand makes transfer even easier.

@born_again the OP says the old phone is dead, transfers apps need both phones to be working.

I think you missed the third paragraph in the OP!
"My question is, when I get the new phone (whichever one it is), how do I transfer information from the old phone to the new phone, when I can't switch the old phone on?"

Many thanks everyone for your comments so far.
When I press the on button, the screen flickers briefly in part of it, but I can't get anything to actually display. So while some bits of software underneath may still be working, I can't see anything on the screen.
@born_again all of the reviews of the current xaomi suite (14, 15) say that all of the apps come with lots of ads that need to be disabled individually. Did Mts b_a find that a problem?
I will look into the Nord 4 but it's a bit more than I planned to spend. The Honor 400 is £300 at Curry's at the moment.

If you want a phone without cr*p have a look at the Nothing Phone 3a.
I have the 3a Pro and it's a breath of fresh air, good OS and no bloatware.1 -
The Xiaomi and Poco phones not only have ads (especially annoying in the settings app) but also download "apps and games you may like" without prompting.

Just about all phones come with apps that no one wants. Just a simple case of deleting before transferring your data.
Honor is as bad as the rest.
