That overblanket thing might also be worth it for just plain comfort.
As could also save the often detectable feeling of the wiring - worse on some models than others - and some are more sensitive to feeling it on a given model than others.

Nope. Dreamland make an under blanket that can be set for the slightly odd times of 1, 3 or 9 hours.
Other brands include Morphy Richards and Mia & Coco.
The ones to avoid are simple pre-heating under blankets. If you get into bed and leave them on for a few minutes the cut-out operates. They're non resettable and they don't sell the control unit and power lead separately, so you've wasted your money.

As a slightly off the wall option, I've got an electric pet mat that I use on my work-from-home chair. I think it's great.
This sort of thing:
Uses about 20 watts and keeps me cosy at my desk.
