Electric blanket

Also if you are having trouble paying bills. Ask your energy supplier. We got a free heated throw via our supplier last year.
Last 30 days use by Mrs 59.3 hours, power used 0.075kWh so at peak rate that was 20p to run.

Yes they do
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
Check sizes some bed models only cover just over half the bed others cover full - excl maybe pillow zone.
And real fancy ones can be set differently torso to toes as it were iirc.
I dont hest my bedroom directly but notice that first 5 min chill more now - so might invest for a pre bedtime warm up this coming winter

No, not always, it depends on the type and brand. The dual controls can have obviously have seperate leads to each controller from a common connector and single mains plug. You need to "look/check" the individual/particular item.

Can you give me an example of such? I don't think I've ever seen one.

I have a 12 year old Dreamland heated throw and 3 year old Dreamland over blanket for my bed. Very pleased with both.
I had a heated under blanket but I prefer the over blanket which I can wrap around myself in bed and snuggle down especially on cold winter mornings when I am in no rush to get out of bed.

I was going to say a Monogram Dual control overblanket (like mine) but they don't seem to be made any more when I did a (non-exhaustive) search. Even the Dreamland ones seem as though they have separate 13A plugs - a bit of a pain because a lot of bedrooms aren't over supplied with 13A sockets so you'd need a double socket extension lead or adapter - not ideal. A non-exhaustive search didn't reveal anything different from other brands, so the market has obviously changed in recent years so your init6ial "yes" response looks like it's now always the case.

You should be able to read it in your local library.

Definitely get an overblanket not an under blanket as many are advising. Under blankets are just for warming the beds up,not for keeping on all night or for an hour .
I have only used what is probably one of the best makes by Dreamland .6 Different heat settings 1 to 6 with 6 being used for a fast pre heat of just five minutes with 1 ,or 2 setting used for up to 8 hrs or 1 hour then they auto switch off .
I have found a single is suitable for a double bed .Not the cheapest make but with something like an electric blanket I m not buying any cheap makes .Dreamland or Silent Night are the established top makes .

I particularly suggest those who might be looking for a bargain read their linked article at the bottom of that page
"Nine out of the 11 electric blankets we tested from online marketplaces can't be legally sold in the UK, eight were poorly made and three are a potential electric shock risk"
