Dead Gas Meter

Hubs are part of the upper electric smart meters nowadays on all smart meters.
Not always. Here's a situation where the communications hub is separate from the SMETS2 meter:
The hub is up to 1.5m away at the end of the black 'flying lead' peeping out of the top of the KAIFA FL100 adaptor. It's used to get round obstacles to radiation close to the meter..
I'm not being lazy ...
I'm just in energy-saving mode.1 -
The SMETS2 spec hasn't changed recently to my knowledge, so while the comms hub is usually mounted on the top of the ESME it is not a fixed part of it, it only uses it for a power supply.
The ESME still has to join the HAN created by the comms hub, it does not pass data directly to it even though it is mount on the top.
The comms hub can also be mounted on its own with a separate power supply but that is rare.

This is interesting as our meter was fitted in May 15 so must be a SMETS1 but when the gas meter was replaced they only fitted the gas meter and left the electric meter in place so would that explain why the new gas meter still isn’t sending readings to BG?

Yes, that would account for it, and if it was treated as an emergency I can see them just replacing the gas meter to get you going again, but they should have followed up with a replacement of the electricity meter and a new comms hub.
Can you confirm the make/model of your electricity meter, and if possible a photo?

Thanks for the gas meter photo, that is a SMETS2 meter, I was hoping for a photo of the electricity meter though to confirm it is SMETS1…

Sorry I should have seen that!
Both meters were installed at the same time in 2015

Thanks, and yes, that is SMETS1 so you are going to need to call BG.
It is important to get this fixed as the gas meter will be constantly trying to connect to a comms hub that isn't there which is going to rapidly deplete the battery …

Thanks for the advice I will do that.
All I can say is wow what incompetence from BG. They were here with a new electric meter and asked me if I wanted the electric meter changing while they were charging the gas meter. I told them no need the electric meter was working but they shouldn’t have asked me if meters need charging in pairs.
This is not the first time I’ve had problems with BG as when the boiler was replaced they left a leak so when the emergency engineer came he found the flue was not to standard, the condensate was running external in overflow pipe. No inhibitors had been used and the old flue hole inside had mdf over it and not filled in properly. As the boiler was in place they had to remove the bricks from the outside and brick up through the cavity.
I’m sure there’s more but those faults come to mind.0
